My new Directional Mod

After putting on my exhaust I needed to put a bracket on to hold the end of can. The stock directionals aside from looking dorky would interfere with the place I wanted to put the exhaust bracket. So I decided to move the directionals all together.

*Sorry for the lack of quality pictures I'm working with what i got*

Here is the end result:

The plate is angled and it brings the directionals much closer in. I cut the fender off so you can't see the part that would hang down where the directionals mount stock.

I left the part of the fender that bolts up underneath in back of the tail light. I removed the bolts and set the clip that holds the tool kit strap aside.

Then I took the stock directionals and screwed the stock nut on all the way in and cut off the end of the threaded end below the nut.

My dad took the dremel tool to take the sharp edges of insides of the directional

Then I made this bracket to hold the license plate and the directionals....I suck at welding...its kind of crooked but hey give me a break..you'll never notice with the plate on it.

Then the directionals mount in the sides:

There's enough room between them to run the wires I just didn't put both of them on the bracket while taking pictures. The bracket bolts on up underneath on the underside of the fender using the stock bolts.

So what do you guys think???

I like it, but....

sure seems like alot of work inorder to use the same stock signals. if I were going to spend my time making a custom bracket, it would be inorder to use some different (possibly smaller) turn signals.

that being said, what you did create is really cool and looks really professional

Not really...all in all it took me like 45 minutes. If anyone wants brackets they take about 15 minutes and I could do it for the cost of the steel and shipping (and would actually be straight). Like $20 or something. If you wanted smaller signals you could do that too but I'm broked and it was cheaper this way.

I like it; very industrial look to it, which fits the GS styling well. I'm really sick of the pathetic "bling" brigade; they're the type who put those cheap-ass chrome rub strips around the wheel wells on their cars, and think they've made some type of improvement, when in fact, they've only made their cars even uglier than before...

Please take five minutes to paint the whole thing before it rusts all to hell; it won't hurt to scrape off any existing rust before you paint it...

Looks good Pastrana.  :thumb: You might want to give the brackets a good spray of rust-proof paint.  Lots of opportunity for rust in the back end.

Thanks! Yeah the whole thing is being painted I'm waiting for my paint to come in and I'll just spray it the same color as my frame (which won't be silver anymore). I have left over grill paint too I could use really quick just because I've got it. My bike sat for a long time in a basement before I bought it and theres a ton of rust on the swing arm and the frame up by the tank so its gotta be done.
