Well I think that Im going to be gettin a new bike as soon as I graduate but I have a dilemma. I cant choose between the ninja 650r and the sv650s. I think they both look nice. Im not really looking for something thats too fast and I like the way twins sound and I also like the fuel injection. So has anyone found any good reviews comparing these two bikes since they seem to be in the same class?? I cant seem to find any myself, any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Look for a Motorcyclist Magazine from March (IIRC). It has the Ninja 650r on the cover.  It said the 650r is nice but the SV650 is still better. :icon_mrgreen:  Hope that helps.  :thumb:

yea I was thinking that the v-twin has a little more punch

RedShift

Of the two, I'd stick with the older, more proven design.  That suggests the SV650, and in the Motorcyclist article the SV650S seemed to be the better bike.

Road Racing World did a comparison in this months issue.  They said the Kawi was a nice bike, but not when held up to comparison to the SV.

Ok, I'll bite.. how and why is the unfaired SV more powerful and faster than the faired version?

The unfaired SV650 data came from the Hard Numbers page in the back of the magazine, so the normal variation of different testing dates.

Speaking of variation, the Ninja 650R tested poorly in Cycle World (March)...

HorsePower: 61.56 @ 8850 RPM
Torque: 41.95 7310 RPM

1/4 mile: 12.45 @ 104.80 MPH

High/low/avg. 47/40/45 mpg

...and much better in Motorcycle Consumer News...

1/4 mile: 11.71 @ 106.04 mph

High/low/avg. 68/61.8/65.3

Here's another....

Rider (April)
4-way comparo

1. SV650S
2. FZ6 & 599 ~ Tie for 2nd
3. 650R (HP/TQ is rated at 62.10/41.5)
