Is the SilverStar noticeably brighter than stock headlamp, looking from the rider's view? Does it light further (more road ahead) than stock? I've seen hi-performance halogens in other cars and bikes and from an observer's view, it looks A LOT nicer - brighter with blue-white tint. But sometimes it seems that they do not actually perform as well as stock halogens - most significant flaw is that they may not light as far (as much road) as stock. Let us know how they are. i installed a silverstar bulb on my GS earlier this week.

the light is a touch whiter than the stock lights. its not a major major change, but it does improve it a bit.

the install on the F models is extremely easy, you don't need any tools other than your hands if you have good lighting. If you decide you don't like it, it will take you about 2 minutes to swap the old one back in.

No doubt it's for the daylight sensor for the optional headlight modulator that shows up on ebay for around $5 all the time, right? 

No, some bikes have a running/pilot/position light on the front. If you don't have the light then the wires are just spare.  You can use them for whatever you want.  (20 amp fuse, max total 200 watts for the bike) The brown wire is hot 12V when the ignition key switch is on or in park. The black/white wire is ground.
