Bogging at 50 MPH @ 4000 RPM's

After my carb rebuild I'm getting a slight bog at 50 MPH @ 4000 RPM's.

I really didn't ride the bike prior to my rebuild of the carbs so I have nothing to gauge it by.

Any clues?

Remember the GS is the inside half of a early GSXR. 4K is under the GS's powerband especally at speed and in higher gears. The GS doesn't really start pulling until after 7K rpm with peak power at around 9K.

Either whack it open, downshift, or be content to putter around.

I am little confused by JAMESG's response, but I think we are on the same page.

What gear are you in when your pulling  50MPH @4000rpm ?

If your in 6th.  Downshift.
if your in fifth. downshift, but maybe a problem
if your in fourth. somethings up.

4k always bogs somewhat for me... At least compared to 5k+.  But, 4k pulls like hell compared to the H#nda 90 I used to ride.

If you have a dead spot, meaning power -> no power -> power, I'd be more worried.

And if one did have a dead spot there?

50 mph and 4K should not bog, but isn't that great ... anyway some messed up I'll bet.
cool.

What year is it?  Is it a carb with a mid jet?

Then something is screwed up with the mix, jetting, spark, or some other something-or-other...  (I'm not the expert ).

The acceleration should usually be a smooth curve up, peak, then usually a sharp drop off in power.  Sometimes the curve is flat for longer, then jumps really fast.

I'm in 6th gear when this is happening....and it seems to happen when I'm STEADY on the throttle - it's not bogging when I'm twisting the throttle - it's a slight bog so it's nothing drastic but it's there and somewhat annoying.

Allright, I rode around today, and I just couldn't bring myself to lower the rpms, except when slowing down from 65mph.  My bike does not like to be in 6th gear at 60mph and 4000rpms.  I don't like to be in 6th @ 60 & 4k rpms.  There's not enough power-pulses to be smooth.

Now, I have a question for ya: Is it hesitating?  Or, bogging?

Oh, no, don't worry, I was keeping it above 4.5k in 6th all the time, as I always do.

That wasn't directed to you Scratch.  I was suggesting that you and I agree., and he needs to down shift.
