The EX500Riders.com thread

There's been a bit of talk about the forum for that "other bike" lately.  I figured it could use a thread of it's own.

So, apparantly they don't really like us over there.  And they really don't like are bike.  That 11 hp really means a lot to them.  (Although, to be fair, it's like a 25% increase).  And for some reason, they think ours is the ugly bike.  They like the water-cooled thing, wheras as far as I'm concerned (and everyone else here, it seems like), being air-cooled is a huge win.

And it looks like they have scouts checking us out.  But it's ok, because we have people in their camp, too.

Reading a bit of their forum, I'm not too impressed.  They seems to fit the wannabe rice rocketeers you'd expect form the Ninja crowd.  When the gs vs. ex threads come up (as they do over there, just like here), there's a lot of chest thumping over the 11 hp.  No real mention of ridability, maintainability.

And, like I said, I guess they don't like us.  As Alpha mentioned, the big April Fool's prank (pretty funny actually) was that the admin pretended to have bought a GS500, and was switching the site ("Over time, I'll be changing everything around, so hopefully we'll become even better than GSTwin.com").  People didn't seem to take that too well.

Overall, seems like kind of a one sided rivalry.  Maybe we should bake them a cake or something?

nah. we both know who's better. lets leave it at that. the bikes are well matched and each has aspects both better and worse than the other. the key is that these bikes are both around for new riders to choose from.

or you could say that at least the gs has gotten a face-lift in its model lifespan.

Keep it clean.

I plan on keeping it clean.  I just think it's funny that they seems so aware of us, and we just ignore them.  Kind of like finding out the school across town was really hoping to beat you in the big game that you didn't even known you were scheduled for.  And there's been a bit of talk about them today, so I figured we might as well consolidate it into one thread.  So here it is.  :icon_mrgreen:

lol yeah but I consider mine a "standard"

aaronstj

Yeah, our naked bikes are pretty much standards.  But the F's are as much wannabe gixxers as ex500s are wannabe Ninjas.  Be at least we don't wanna be a gixxer from 1985.  :icon_mrgreen:

Meh.  I don't think they actually wanna f%$k with us over there.  I suppose we'll have to be ever vigilant, though. :)

Where's the post that mentions you?  I didn't see it when I searched their forum...

Oh, word.

Hehe.  "They say the plastic and the EX being water cooled is a negative. We all know thats part of what makes the EX much better than the gs..."

Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

I scouted a couple threads....they a good bunch o'er there....for the most part.  There was the expected Suzuki sucks.... contribution to a Bandit 1200S query but that poster was quickly called on his useless brevity.  :)

Really, though, GS500 taunting by a Ninja 500 owner is akin to a locker room scene where both parties are better off keeping their shorts on.

I know that aaron quoted this topic on the other board before, but here is a link to it if anyone is interested.

It makes for some interesting reading

I checked out both bikes when I was buying my first bike.  At first, I thought I'd be all about the EX500, 'cause it was a "Ninja".  I got over that quickly.  The bike seemed...toy like.  I sat on it and got a feel for it, but it didn't feel as substantial.  On those threads they talk about how the EX is superior, and that may be true, but it's not a significant amount, and it's all speed related (0-60, 1/4 mile, top speed).  Our handling issues are quickly and easily corrected with progressive springs, and our acceleration issues are fixed with a simple rejet.  I wonder how the GS would fare against the EX after these mods.  I bet they would be much more evenly matched.
Something is wrong with my twin...all of a sudden it's V shaped!  Wait, no, now it's a triple!  ...and I IZ NOT a postwhore!

IW4

Well, this is a bit more than I expected to see out of all this.

Allow me to introduce myself.  The name's Isaac, and I'm one of the administrators over at "that other site."  Alphafire's a friend of mine—known him for more years than I care to admit—and believe it or not, is the one to blame for turning me onto the 500R in the first place.  (I no longer have it, mind you; ex-girlfriend wrecked it, but I still hang on in my official capacities over there.)

Let it be known that I, nor any other member of the EX500Riders.com administration, hold any ill will toward this site, or the GS in general.  The general populace is a bit more...biased, shall we say, and they tend to show it in interesting ways.  I especially apologize for the one known as "Super Sneaky Steve;" we're still trying to figure him out.

I'm glad a couple of you got a bit of amusement out of my April Fool's Extravaganza.  It got about the reaction I was expecting, and hoping for.  (The part where some of the members thought you'd hacked us—which turned out to be more than I expected—was just an added bonus.)  Wasn't quite as bad as what I did last year, to a forum I used to run, though.  That's just how I roll; I hit hard, where I know it'll hurt.  In this case, it hit our brand vanity.  I could've changed it to a Harley, or perhaps a Gold Wing, but that would've seemed just too obvious, y'know?  :icon_lol:

That's just about all I wished to say.  If you still wanna send that cake, Alpha has my address.  I'll try to send a piece off to California and Ontario, as well. :icon_mrgreen:

Ride on!
