If I jumped into a hot bath tub with my one-piece leathers what would happen - would they mold to my body better, stretch, shrink or damage them? They are a little bit loose up top since taking out the liner - HELP!

The leather would harden when drying. Not recommended.

Oh, and seconded!

from my experience with leather it would strech and harden causing some areas to crack or flake off.  I wouldn't do that but as agreed on by those before me i would like to watch

I have heard of doing this with leather pants and th proper thing to do is to oil the leather as its drying.

but I dunno.  Can we watch? webcast? maybe?
Not the brightest crayon in the box, but I can still be seen from a distance.  ;P

but would it shrink?

No, I'm pretty sure it would get a LOT bigger!

Edit: the leather!!!  The leather would get bigger!

You can't shrink it, really...but it won't get bigger, either, unless you do some deliberate stretching.  It's a good way to get a better fit, though...if you're willling to walk around for 3 or 4 hours while they dry on your body.

By the way...there's no harm in trying.  The leather will not get brittle or anything when it's drying and it certainly won't crack.  If that happened every one of us who rides in the rain would be struttin' our stuff in shredded gear.

I tailor could probably alter them for you for  a reasonable price.  Just make sure you find someone who has worked leather before.

I've got several pairs of leather combat boots that have seen plenty of water, even salt water and they are fine. They're a good 5 yrs old too. Getting them wet will probably help break them in but other than that IDK.

Years ago I was working a summer job in a warehouse.  Directly across the street was a very large tannery.  We were in an industrial part of North Kansas City.

It is difficult to decribe the smell of a tannery on a 100 degree day.   Esecially when the wind would whip through the tannery's open doors and blow towards us.

The smell of death on a very, very large scale.  Uck.

Speaking of, what do you use to clean and condition your leathers? I have a bottle of Meguiar's auto upholstery cleaner/conditioner, but I'm not sure if that is suitable for leather you wear. Seems like it would be, but I don't wanna speculate. Anyone?

I use a light soap/water concentration to clean off the bugs, dirt, and grime. After that I hand try with a soft cloth and use a leather cleaner. After rinsing that off I condition the leather with mink oil. Makes my jacket smell good, too :)
