I actually thought there wasn't much room under the GS500 seat at all  :dunno_white:

I think he means the space inside the tail fairing, where the electronics are (on one side).  I'd often thought about using that space.  One idea I had was to have spare SLA batteries (each with 1/2 the CCA, so the weight would be balanced) for those cases when the battery dies for one reason or another.  If I could remember to keep them topped off, they'd be great in a pinch.  You could also put the electronics for your radar detector or gps or whatnot in that space.  Basically stuff you might possibly want permanantly mounted.  Mount your battery tender in there, so you just need to plug in your bike, I don't know. :)  I could come up with a lot more crappy ideas.

Well I'm all for using the space we have. I wish it was sealed from the road though.

That's a good idea for a mod.  If someone was good with fiberglass or something, to make an underseat road grime protector for your documents and stuff.  I'd click on that link. :)

Not meaning to threadjack, but how the heck do I get my seat off?  I have a brand new 1990 and I just got my permanent insurance card and I want to stick it under the seat but I can't figure out how to get the seat off and my manual hasn't came in the mail yet.  I almost ripped it in half last night. Thanks!

On the left side there's a lock where you can put your ignition key.  Turn it and lift the seat off.

careeeeefulll putting stuff under the seat.

I lost my disc lock this week. I thought i had it well fastened, but the twisty roads and or city riding got the best of it and I lost it.

The only things I was able to fit under my seat were an alarm and registration/insurance in a little baggy. Not much space in there IMO.

I haven't been able to find a lot of storage under the seat, but I'm thinking of building some small storage pockets in the sides of my fairing. I have a 2005F model. Ther's a lot of wasted space under the sides. has anybody seen prefabbed storage containers availible aftermarket? I could probably make something myself, but the headache factor would be lower if there is anything commercially available
