Going to get some new gear tomorrow. Brands to consider? (~150-200 budget)

I love those gloves! They're such a joke. And there's a matching jacket and helmet too.

I would wear those because I love the novelty of 'bling'
You should see my belt buckle. It's a big sparkly gold dollar sign on a tiger print belt. Bling is awesome. :thumb:

Boob room, you say?

Anywho, newenough is where it's at. I got 2 Teknic leather jackets and a pair of leather pants all for $100 each on closeout. And yeah, they're awesome quality. The pants fit me a little odd, but I'm tall with ski poles for legs, so that's my problem. But that's is the #1 place I'd recommend. Cycle gear is also cool. Good selection and decent prices. And look hard, because there are markdowns on random stuff on the racks.

As for Icon, they make some stupid shaZam! for sure, but a lot of their stuff is good. I loved the Mainframe Skull helmet and tried it on, and it fit perfect. I didn't buy it though until I read high praise for that line of helmets. So while their line of blingtastic shaZam! is trash, they actually do make good stuff.

Gear shopping is tough, but you can find some great deals if you're patient. Good luck!

So today I went back and exchanged them for Dainese Firestarter gloves.
...

Much better protection. Dianese is a great company too. High quality product.

regarding ICON:
just like a gsxr 600 isnt automatically a squid bike, neither is the ICON gear. However, just like there are plenty of squids that are attracted to the gixxer, they are also attracted to the ICON stuff, which is marketed to the stunting crowd. Its probably just as good as the next smaller known brand.

Thats my opinion on the matter...

The only people I've seen wearing Icon are the "Bad-Ass" wannabe types (like me )...  They get it 'cause the jacket has skulls, guns, pirates, and whatnot...

The one guy I know that has an Icon jacket has a dual-sport that's totally Mad-Maxed out...  Friggen spikes and bullets... HA HA HA HA... I should take a pic of it.   :icon_mrgreen:

Crap, IMO.

Mind elaborating?

Not very high quality helmet. The padding on the inside is low quality, cheap fabric. The helmet doesn't have very high tolerances, which means lower quality. The crush-foam protection stuff isn't nearly as good as that in higher end helmets, (hell, even Icon is better than Vega. I hate Icon stuff, too).

Haven't seen much of the Vega Nitro jacket though.

The main difference I have noticed between leather gear and textile gear, is that leather will hold up better to repeated crashes a WHOLE lot better than textile. But for the price difference depending on the weather you rid ein textile may be the way to go. It,s generally cheaper and armored. Just make sure you buy something that fits correctly. Ill-fitting gear is almost as bad as no gear

Yeah, me too. Especially since it's also crap. I'm sorry, but I don't trust my head in some PepBoys helmet special. I don't care what that article says but my head is what's keeping me from being a vegetable. I'd rather trust the Snell foundation, the only people taking an interest in my head's safety. That article's science was shaky at best, anyways.

Haven't seen much of the Vega Nitro jacket though.

I was meaning more of the jackets and boots anyway, I'm sticking to HJC, KBC, Arai, and Shoei as far as helmets are concerned.  Some of the Nitro jackets have CE certified armor in them though.

There's a guy I see riding around that wears a knight helmet. Yeah, a metal one with the slit for the eyes and a spike atop it. So awesome. And safe. And probably totally legal.

Hmm. I might have to check them out then. I like CE armor a lot, and won't buy a jacket without it (although my Teknic jacket didn't originally come with armor, my old Fieldsheer armor fit in perfectly). Fieldsheer is a good brand to check out too. You can get the jackets on eBay for fairly cheap. Good products too, especially their mesh.

I'm a big fan of Alpinestars gear.

my alpinestars mx boots - old school tech boots!   (http://www.classicboots.com/moto/images/90s04.jpg) have been so great over the years... they're like a motocross antique now haha.

I think the alpinestars gear looks great, the lines and colors are nice and it is always quality gear.
