God I hate you. And not for any malicious reasons, simply because I am in love with your new lady.

Speaking of, your girlfriend sounds cool as hell too, especially with the thing about going to get you a lock. That's a selfless thing for her to do for you. Simple, but not all women would do that. None that I've ever dated, anyways. You've got a pair of keepers, my friend.

I'll list some of the reasons she is a keeper...
1.  damn cute and smart
2.  got me into motorcycling
3.  while I had the GS, rode a bigger bike than me (SV650, I have her by 25 ccs now (and a f**kload of power...)
4.  We do what we can to make life simple.
5.  Did I mention she is damn cute?
6.  Has let me use her bike for the past month while I was bikeless
7.  You'll appreciate that she is from Portland, Oregon
She works right near cyclegear.  Much easier for her to go there for me.

Never mind, she sounds awful. May I recommend dumping her and sending her back here...I mean to Portland. Kick her to the curb. Not near my house. In SE. Not that it matters.

Sucker...

Sorry, man.  I think I'm going to keep her.  I think she grew up in SE.  Hawthorne?  We visit from time to time.  Her parents are still there.  We rode a 1983 Honda somethingorotherbigannoyingbike from Oakland, CA to Portland for her dad.  Don't do that in the summer.  Stinkin hot in the central valley....

How old is she? She's from my neighborhood pretty much (Woodstock), so if she's anywhere near my age I have a good shot at knowing her.

I'm 26 and went to Cleveland (across-town rival...even though we weren't much of a threat). Name? PM me if that's better for you.

So, further impressions on the 675....
Wow...  It is so nice.  Yes, it is such a big upgrade from a GS500, especially one that was 17 years old.  Everything is so responsive.  The brakes are so smooth and linear.  Front brakes are very strong and steady, rear is really useless.  Accelerates like a mo-fo, and I'm stil in break-in and generally following the rules.  What blows my mind is that at 6 K RPM, I'm at 30 MPH in first gear.  Red line is at 14K.  I had forgotten the owners manual at the dealership and only received it today.  I now have the little blue lights that go up the side of the tach set so that they start to light up around 3K and all of them light up at 6.  Another visual reminder of RPMs.  You can set them however you want.  The dashboard on this bike is insane.  Gas mileage, average speed, max speed, lap timer.  The bike is truly fully loaded.  Lots of the upgrades you think of doing have already been taken care of.
Now, the bad news...  I picked up a screw in the back tire yesterday.  It was deflated when I got to work.  I got it to a tire shop and we have patched it.  I am going to replace the tire ASAP.  Here's the frightening part.  The tires put on this bike stock were designed for it, Pirelli Dragon Super Corsa Pro.  The list price for a rear tire, yes, just a rear tire, is $350.  You can find places selling them for $220.  I need to talk to my dealership and mechanic to see what they can getthem for.  I may end up changing both tires to another set of tires (only two other recommended tire sets are out) because the price of changing both may be cheaper than replacing the rear.  I'm not going to test this bike to the level the 'stock' tires grant, and would not really suffer for the replacement, most likely.  Also, could sell the front to someone who wanted it, and likely sell the rear to stunters.  Maybe pay for the new set....  75 miles on them....  sad...  And I wil likely not ride until I am riding to a place to get this fixed.  The rear is holding air at this point, no leaks....  So aggravating....

With all of the troubles I've had with wheels and tires on my GS, I simply wouldn't want to even ride it until the tire is completely replaced. There's just too much riding on your wheels and tires to risk.

Triumph 675 Woes: http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50563

Apparntly there is a liner in the gas tank that can't stand up to gasoline. It degrades and clogs the fuel system. Be careful!!

Oh jeez! That's so unacceptable. The thing is getting great reviews and then they get hit with something like this? Seriously, how does something like that pass QA? Somehow I feel like you just wouldn't see such a blatant disregard for quality from the Japanese makers. Triumph needs to get a hold of this quickly.

I know I'll be chatting with Hattar motorsports today about this.  Great.  The tank, the rear tire....  And I don't even havea 100 miles on it  :)  The risk of buying a new model.  But the nice part is knowing that it wil all be taken care of, and quickly...

My mechanic rocks.  As always, he has the best and most economical solution to a problem.  The tire problem at least.  I'm takingthe bike down to him shortly for him to remove the tire, put in a plug he has that goes in from the inside.  He says this will permanently seal off the tire and make it safe to use for the rest of its natural life.  It is shaped like a cork, evidently.  And the total charge is 1/2 hour of labor.  This mechanic has never steered me or my girlfriend wrong.  I trust him on this one.
So, if you are curious about the tank issue, here is the thread on the daytona 675 forum on it.  It seems that it is only affecting some bikes.  Triumph has been replacing tanks with little argument.  We'll see if I am a victim...

Tonight I took the 675 on it's first trip to the twisties.  Ohmygawd....  Wow!  A change of equipment certainly does help.  It just takes the corners like they are nothing.  I am going to have to watch myself to make sure that I do stay within my limits.  The bike just goes into every turn so easily and loves to lean.  I'm sort of speechless.  Definitely my fastest and easiest run through the Berkeley hills ever.  I'm still hesitant due to lack of experience and lack of knowledge of the roads.  And that is a good thing.  The stock tires are track tires, definitely have amazing grip.  It reminds me of when I took a Monster 620 for a test ride a few months ago.  Any time you started to feel even the slightest bit of nervousness about a turn, the bike told you to relax, all was well.  The only other bike I have taken into twisties is the GS and it really is a huge, huge difference, even for a rider who still has a lot to learn.  There was quite a bit of traffic, so I was getting stuck behind cars pretty regularly.  But when the road was open in front of me....  Woohoo!!!  I love my new toy!  Almost 50% of the way through break-in....
Very very excited.  It's going to be an incredible summer....
The beginning of our stable...
