Is it true that by lowering the sprocket you wear down the bikes life span by a little bit? The other question i had was, what is the benifet of upgrading ones suspention (or wa ever u guys call it)?

wow, no love at all for mr nick.
i'm bored, need to post.
going down one tooth won't killl your chain, two teeth, i dunno. going down more that two teeth? not the best at all.
soloution?
go up in the rear sprocket, massively if neccesary (depending on your want).
i think they make like 54 tooth sprockets or somting like that. think starboyz.

suspension?
yes, upgrading makes it handel better, feel better ect.
that is, provided that it is setup right.
you could theoritically "upgrade" the suspension and end up making it worse for your particular body weight or riding style.

example,
you ride only on the street, you ride a 1989 gs500 with origional tires, from 1989. you weigh 100 pounds even. you decide to improve your handeling by installing a super trick gsxr 750 rear shock with remote resivoir. you even go and get the shock professionally rebuilt and recharged just to make sure it is in top form.

the problem, that shock is overkill. your ride is super harsh, and makes the bike feel unstable in corners because it is impossibly too stiff given your superlight weight of 100lbs.
plus the gsxr shock is longer than your old gs one, which raises the rear of the bike, which effects your steering head angle, making it turn in quicker, and feel generally skitish on your worn bone stock tires.

ok, but i'm not saying don't upgrade your suspension, just be smart about it. bang for buck, progressive springs in the front will make more of a positive difference in your riding experience.
think about how each component will effect your bike as a whole, this goes for the sprockets too.
having a big sprocket in back and dropping a tooth in the front MAY (i dunno) make the gs pull clutchless wheelies in second, but your new top speed at redline in sixth may be more like 55 mph (and the clutchless wheelies in second may be at 15 mph, thats what shorter gearing DOES).

think before you do, consider all the options to achieve your goals, and remember that doing things in moderation in the key.

The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

ok so progresive springs well help me with a smother ride and downsizing my sprocket wont brake my bike, if just heard of some people that sayd on this forum that their bike starts to shake a lot (not sure if that was the word that they used) or something like that.

Nick, it seems that you only want quick answers without ever having to spend the extra 2 minutes to search.  We've told you to search in probably 75% of the last 50 threads that you have started, yet you obviously never have.  Until you respect us (you obviously don't), I refuse to ever answer one of your questions or enter a discussion you have started.  Hopefully others will join me.

No hard feelings, but if you wont do your part I wont do mine.

The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

yall quit busting this guys balls...if you have the time to post "SEARCH FOR IT bla bla bla bla" then you have time to answer a simple question like this

TragicImage

I don't think that its them wanting to with hold information, or that they don't have the time...

Its more of a respect thing in my opinion.

I just did a search for a 15 tooth sprocket, that is exactly what I put in the search,  and it came back with 5 pages of results.  Not to mention that on the first page alone it came back with at least 4 seperate results where that was in the title.  It took like 2 seconds.  Do a freaking search you lazy ass!!!!

There is some truth in it, reducing the number of teeth on the drive sprocket will increase vibration in the chain and as a result potentialy shorten its lifespan. I wouldnt drop more than 1 tooth from the standard. I agree with church.....go up on the rear sprocket.

I went -1 in front and +2 in the rear and noticed a nice difference in accelleration but my top end should be a little lower.I used to hit the limiter at 173 mph but havn't had good enough conditions to re test.

Limiter? 173 MPH? What are these things you speak of? They sound futuristic.

Not really look at his/her username.....

I know. Once again, my failure to use smiley faces has made it impossible to tell that I'm kidding.

You know how you have a title under your name that says you were banned? Can I get a mod to make me one that says if something I say sounds stupid or mean, I'm kidding? Maybe "That was sarcasm". Or "I'm not trying to be a duck, I just have a bad sense of humor." I dunno, just an idea..
