front wheel slipped out just enough for my heart to skip a beat

I was riding home from work today.  I'm moving pretty quickly (having a good ride!) as I approach a stale green light and the light turns yellow.  Rather than stop I make my right turn through the yellow.  My speed makes it a tight turn and, rather than float over into the next lane, I lean harder into the turn to stay in the closest lane.  Most of the way through the turn the front wheel slides out a little and then grabs again.  It happened so quickly I didn't have time to panic or do anything dumb (other than running the yellow of course).  Heart skipped a beat though.  Went home and packed it in for the day.

Must have hit a small patch of something slippery.  The tire probably only slipped a few inches.... just enough to let me know something wasn't right.  Didn't like that feeling.  I think I'll stop for the yellow light next time

Congradulations, you made it!  Yay!

I've been sliding my front almost consistantly, the past few months; due to:

Inadeuate tire pressure

Not enough weight over the front to plant the tire (meaning I was leaning back too far, but also I needed to lower the front end to bias more of the bike's weight forward)

Improper rising posture (I needed to dip my chest, lower my inside shoulder, point my elbow straight down (but still be loose on the bars enough to do the funky chicken))
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

I had the rear tire slide out today when braking.  I was switching between wheel tracks as traffic started to flow, and it stopped.  Hit the rear brake too hard right in the middle at a well-traveled intersection.  Needless to say, I didn't have much traction in the grime.  It got a little hairy for a second.

I was taking a left turn last Monday and decided to sneak the turn in before the gap in oncoming traffic closed up.  Because of this I took the turn kinda fast, and my front tire slipped a bit.  It was the same thing as you described Daneilah, too quick at the time for my brain to register, but my heart definitely reacted.  My problem is that the front tire is old and needs changing.  Needless to say, I just ordered a new front tire (Avon AM51).

Anyway, glad you made it out of the situation ok too.

With the speeds they said they were going, I'd be afraid to put my foot down to keep myself upright. I can just imagine the fun little snapping sound that would accompany the pain.

I was riding a VTR1000, and doing a left turn at a light that was green. Being used to the GS' power (or lack thereof) I gave a little throttle in the turn as I do on the GS (I gave it much less than I do on the GS but it still bit!). The rear tire spun and the bike started to over-steer... went sideways ever so slightly, and I released the throttle just enough to regain traction and rode on...

the worst for front wheel slides are crosswalk stripes, especially early morning or after a rain. theres a turn right by my house that's a sharp right to an uphill, but the road surfaces is canted and also changes types of paving. My back breaks lose on that all the time, i just stick on the throttle and ride the slide.
