Paging all K&N filter owners....

Just wondering if anybody with a K&N filter is having - or has had - any hesitation (bogging) problems at about 4000 RPM's in 5th & 6th gear.

Still having problems with my wife's bike and now I'm wondering if it could be the air filter. I bought the bike during the winter months and didn't really put it through it's paces so I don't know if it did this prior to my putzing.

Acceleration is very smooth and powerful when you go from 1st up to 6th at high RPM's but for some reason the bogging continues. And it's a "hesitation type" of bogging NOT a "you're in too high of a gear for your speed" type of bogging.

Just to rule out the fuel petcock, I ran it in all three positions, ON, RES & PRI with the same hesitation at 4000 RPM's in 5th & 6th gear.

Any thoughts?

That's what I'd suspect.  The GS is supposed to be super anal about increasing flow and needing a rejet.  Try putting the stock filter back it and see if that makes a difference

Wait what TYPE of K&N filter did you put in? There are 3 types: a drop in with a restrictor (the resitrictor is removable), a "lunchbox", and pod filters. There is a big difference between all of them.

The drop in type with the restricter.

I assumed he was talking about a drop in but didn't know they had restrictors.  It that's the case maybe I was wrong  :dunno_white:

Still say you should try putting the old filter in

The drop in type with the restricter.

Since it's a drop in with a restrictor, then it doesn't need a rejet.

A rejet is only needed if it has a pipe/slip on. The restrictor takes care of the necessary air flow differences.

that's a definite need for rejetting. luckily with your aftermarket filters it only boggs at 5th & sixth gears.

I have two K&N pod filters & the bogging is in all the gears pretty much whenever I open the throttle more than 1/2 way. I need to rejet badly.... someone tell me it's cheap & easy....

It's cheap and easy, and you're still wrong. The K&N drop in with the restrictors is DESIGNED not to need a rejet. Pod filters and lunchbox filters are designed to increase air flow, and thus to need a rejet.

alpha is right about the restrictor, nevertheless, put in your old filter and see if it makes a difference.  If not, you know for certain the filter is not the cause.
