Well your going to have to shop around abit more for cheaper coverage, man. BTW, how did you mount your steering dampner?

I havn't yet. but you need to get a 37mm clamp for the forks, then you need to get a set of after market headlight brackets because the camp won't fit on with the stock braket. then you have to drill a whole in your frame, and weld on a weld-nut. its not a bolt on deal.

I don;t have a cage. I don;t have a bad record. its just how it is when you've only got 2 full years insured.
Dude, I have a little more than 1 year of being an insured motorcyclist and they're going to give me a rate of $620 for a brand new 600 sport bike! There are better rates out there for ya.

The insurance companies in my province have now decided that the gs500 is a sport bike. They 'revised' their black list and it now includes 250 ninja's, sv650's and even some KTM models, as well as the GS as a super sport.

Are you currently with Kingsway? If so try Primmum instead. Same thing happened to me (I am in Ontario as well), and my quote went from $700 to $3500 overnight when they revised their rates. Primmum is able to give me a rate about $700 for my M2 license.

Its all about location Rogue...  Several Canadians over on thumpertalk were discussing insurance rates on a drz (a dualsport no less) and I could not believe it... we're talking 20 times more than I pay.  Maybe that makes up for the better health care  -just a joke, but it really seems like us in the US have much cheaper rates compaired to Canada.

How much more is it going to cost you to buy a new bike, than keeping the GS since you're going to be paying that much for insurance wheather you get the Super Sport or not?

What does it matter?

I would get a better bike.

IMO there is no sense in dumping all of those mods into the GS when you're just going to be paying the large surcharge anyways. Buy a better bike, so at least you're not paying for some insurance company's delusions, you'll have the real deal.

The GS is a good bike, but it is certainly not worth paying extreme surcharges for, no matter how much mods you stick on/in it.

I am going to sell my 05' GS this september if they quote me more than 2,000 for next season and buy a yzf600, or cbr600f4 or another banana seat style sport bike.

I have this stupid attachment to the GS. Partly because it's so nimble and partly because I have all these mods planned out for it. I've been thinking about this all day and this is what I've come up with thus far.

When insurance comes dew in September, I'll change it over to the new company that gave me the two quotes. I will pay the ridicules price for the GS. Then if in my travels I come across any really good deals on an older sport bike, I'll pick it up and just transfer the insurance over. So at least I won't have to be without a bike for any amount of time, and I can keep doing some mods to my GS. I think getting a new bike in September is putting a lot of financial stress on the situation, but if I don't have to worry about it until next year, then it will make it easier, and I'll be able to get a better bike.

that's right! no need to pay extra because the insurance company falsely thinks you're a threat to yourself and others ... instead, become a REAL threat to yourself and others! and when you get in an accident and cause lots of damage to life, limb, and property, and the insurance company has to pay for it you can tell them 'i told you so'.

no idea how the insurance works in canada but you should address the problem (cost of insurance) instead of creating another problem (added cost of a new bike, maintenance on two bikes instead of one, etc.). don't forget about transaction costs to register the new bike, as well as sales taxes etc.

edit: pardon the sarcasm. i'm sure there's plenty of reasons to get a new bike; just cost of insurance alone doesn't seal the deal.

well I think I could get a decent older super sport for about $3000. and i should be able to sell my GS for $2000-$2500 so really its only going to cost me say at the worst $1000. plus of course the extra $19 for insurance! really thats not to bad.

well I do all the maintenance myself and the transaction costs arn't usually that bad. they useually total somthing like $300. thats including cert as well.

but your looking at this the wrong way. I'm not looking at it as "I told you so". I'm looking at like, if I'm going to be raped, I might as well get what I'm being raped for.
its like going into macdonalds and ordering and paying for a big mac, and then they hand you a kids burger and say "sorry, thats just how it is". if I'm paying for a big mac, I dam well better be getting a big mac.

- even a higher milage newer super sport could be had for a few more pennies. I figure if i'm going to pay thousands of dollars for insurance i might as well be insuring something much better than the GS for like you said 'a few extra dollars' literally. My other route will be to buy a cruiser style bike and trade off the sport style riding for more crusing style of riding and save.. *gasp* thousands of dollars  :cookoo:

- the banana seats?   I've got a thing for the standard sitting position and the banana seat bikes tend to sit more upright than their more agressive brother bikes.

the thing is I don't want a fuel injected bike. and I really really like the 88-92 gsxr750. but I'll most likely make a street fighter out of what ever I end up getting. I probably won't get anything too new.

2. Your paid to September so ride the bike until then and Take it off on OCt 1! ! !

3. Save your pennies for an old Hog or 88zzrab3 12500 or whatever you want.

As my other post says, the same has happened to myself as well as some other ppl on here. They going to easywayinsurance.ca. They should be able to get it to 2000 if not a bit less. Personally I am not going to pay the value of my bike every year in insurance, that's retarded. I have an '05 and am having a hard time knowing I will have to pay 2k for it a year.

I've had the same thoughts about getting a SS if I'm paying for one, but apparently things w/ Kingsway might change on monday (dunno why, but they said that over the phone today) so hopefully it goes back.
EDIT- the 2016 was the quote from JevCo through that Easyway broker.. and that was for a GS500f w/ 1 minor infraction, 20 yr male.
