Hi everybody.  A few weeks ago I posted I got my new to me bike.  Here's a picture of it.  It's a 1990 E with 9K miles on it.  It's my first bike and I'm signed up for the MSP class june 2nd.  I got my permit and I've been practicing a lot in my driveway and my very quiet neighborhood.

I haven't taken it out on a "real" road yet but I'm hoping to in the next couple of weeks.  I've gotten pretty good at figure 8's, low speed manuevering, and clutch/gear work.  It was pretty overwhelming at first but it's becoming instictive to know what to do and when.  I'm 26 and can't believe this is the first time I've had a bike, I love it!  I'm sure I'll have lots of stupid noobie questions as I gain experience.  Here it is:

The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

I don't get home from school for a month, but I really want a bike. I keep watching Ebay as the GS's come and go... heartbreaking.

I feel your pain man, I have to wait till finals are over to get my bike (May 10th)... meanwhile all the bikes are being sold...

Screw it, just quite school and get a motorbike. You know you want to. :thumb:

Quitting school wouldn't help me much since my flight home from London isn't until May 16th. Otherwise, I might be tempted.

I finally took it out for a real ride this weekend.  I went out with my friend who has a ninja 500.  It was great!  We went out on 45 for the central pa people, lots of beautiful scenery there.  Farms, barns, and cows.  I wish I had my camera, I'd post some pics.

Everthing went really well.  I've been practicing my low speed manuevering around my neighborhood for about 3 weeks and I was pretty nervous to actually get it up to speed.  I learned it's a lot easier to steer the bike going faster than slower.  Figure 8's suck, taking a small bend at 40 isn't too bad.  Countersteering is weird but not as wierd as I thought it was going to be.  First time I hit 65 on the highway I almost crapped when I got a little wind gust.  Those are really scary.

Only had one little problem.  I won't lie and say that while reading the "Jackass" thread, I was laughing at all the guys/gals that forgot to put their kickstand down and dropped the bike.  I thought, "there is no way I could ever be dumb enough to forget to put my kickstand down".  Well, sure enough we pulled in to gas up and there was a group of about 6 harley guys taking a break from their ride.  I pull the pump like a pro, shut the bike off and proceed to get off to fill up when I realize in slow mo that something isn't right.  My bike never leans this far when I'm getting off.  I'm a jackass and forgot to put the kickstand down.  I get pinned btw my bike and the pump and I'm yelling to my friend who is on the other side that I'm stuck.  He can't see me and it's kinda loud so I was stuck there for about 30 seconds until I got his attention.  He came over, helped me get the bike up and I start cracking up.  Looking at the harley guys they had this expression that was absolutely priceless.  I wish I had a picture of that.   I gave them a quick thumbs up and went on to my fueling duties.   :thumb:

All in all it was a great first ride and I can't wait to take the whole rt 45 ride sometime.  I'll make sure to bring the camera next time.

Hahaha, pinned between the bike and pump!  Priceless!

You may not have known it, but at the point where you had to yell for help...that...that was your induction into the motorcycling world.  Welcome, you're one of us now.

P.S. I've both forgotten to put the kickstand down, AND I've gotten trapped between my bike and our fence...  :icon_rolleyes:

Pandy, don't write so small. It makes me curious.

So I started increasing the pages text size more and more and more until the rest of the text was sooo big I could no longer be bothered to scroll to find your text.

Then I realised an easier method of discovering what you wrote

and I must say for those that haven't read it, I'm shocked and it sure made me

Nice! Congrats on the bike and successful first ride (minus the gas station incident...oops!). I feel the same way as you- I got my first bike at 25 and can't believe I didn't start riding years ago. I've been missing out!

Have fun,

Dave

So... He harley guys just sat and watched you pinned to the pump?

Maybe I should rethink this harley thing... I've run into a few jerks with that thing but damn... chicks dig harleys... they're a real icebreaker..

No, I wouldn't go that far.  I was in no danger and I'm pretty sure they knew I was with the other rider who I was motioning for a hand.  They seemed like a friendly bunch who, like me, got a little kick out of a funny moment.  I'm pretty sure if I would've turned and waved to them I needed help, one of those guys would have given me a hand.  It was over and done with quickly. I was glad to provide the entertainment (and thankful that was the worst thing that happened).  :thumb:

That's a metaphor.  At these prices, 3 guys in white uniforms should have run out to help you!
