well heres the deal..  I'm 4ft 10!  the CBR's are just too scary for me for my first bike!  the GS is almost perfect for me! i just need a few more inches! i know about shaving the seat deal...   but is there anything else? i cannot find any lowering kits for this bike.  all heelp is needed right now! im desperate to get this bike and get rollin  but i need to have at least one foot steady on the ground! dont i?

Basically, you'd need "lowing dogbones," a way to lower the front (thus the handlebar risers), and a shorter kickstand...  Someone around here has a write-up for all of that stuff...

I'd see exactly how low you can get the seat before screwing with the suspension though...  It can change the handing of the bike in bad-bad ways.

whats the deal on screwing with the dogbones reflecting on the performance! i dont want to die lol   does it screw up turns? wobble? slide out from under you on turns?   what does it do?   i dont want to be ridin a chopper by rising the bars so....  someone said somethin about shortening the shocks...   whats the deal with that if i can leave the dogbones alone?

You just need to lower the front and the rear the same (or nearly the same) amount.  At the front you can slide the forks thru the tripleclamps half an inch (at least until the tops of the forks rest against the bottom of the handlebars).

Relax!!! It has been done for many bikes and by many people so no it's not going to kill you.   It does affect the handling a bit by changing the rake angle but if you lower the front as well then you can mininize the effect. You will also lost a bit of ground clearence as well.

However, to be honest you dont have much choice. You need to shave the seat and either get a shorter shock or longer dogbones, otherwise it could be quite difficult to learn on the GS for you height. Another choice would be to start on a smaller bike (i.e. a 125cc or 250cc). As you get more experienced you will be comfortable even you can only get one foot down.

nah i dont think i can go out in public with anything less than a 500!   i come from a crew of tricksters out in Jerzey so...  i can flake out like that! i have a girl back there whos got one inch on me and rides a cbr600f3 like a guy so ill make it work! lol

Muzzys lowering links for Z6 will fit the GS500.  About $45 and will lower the rear approx 1 1/4" or 2 1/2"

GenMar risers for $110 will move bars up 1" and back 1 3/8" for easier reach for short person and will get the bars back far enough for fork tubes to slide past them to lower the front approx equal to rear.

If you went with an F, by lowing it a lot (speaking of ground clearance) you might have problems with the lower fairing dragging. However, if the fairing was removed or if you just got a naked E, this might give you a little more room under the bike.

Personally, I think a modded out E looks a little meaner than something with fairing .... something about a naked bike just says SEXY!!!
