I posted a while back that I was starting to build a dr 650 motor in a 500e frame.  The only thing I've done was I put a motor in . I have everything except tail pipe, tank and seat on the bike. Right now it weighs 274 lbs.  I'm thinking about 300 lbs in full street trim. blinkers, lights,CENTERSTAND, and so on.  IF I remember, it's about 100-125lbs lighter than a stock gs.  I think I can be under 290lbs(wet) for racing. Pretty much all I had to do so far was to make mounting brackets from the motor to the gs's factory mounting points.  I had to cut the two front lower brackets as the motor bolt is no where close to it. I'm just going to move the brackets to the right spots.Other than that, it was a bolt in deal.  I did have to bend the back, lower, chain side mount to get the chain to line up.
I'll post some pics in a few days.

I found a gsxr frame that I think i'm going to try out. I think it'll save even more weight.  not sure how much though. if it's a lot, I'm putting my 610 husqvarna motor(about 70lbs) in that. 6 speed 55stock-65hp modded should be fun.

I had a DR650 in a Yamaha FZ600 chassis
I was in front of friend on a GS at the track right before.....
crashed it a few yrs ago....
now the engine is sitting in a early 90's RG-V250SP chassis waiting for TIG welder to have time to weld in engine mounts
and figure out how to get it registered for street duty?????????

actually a FZR400 chassis would be friggin awsome

GSXR frames are HUGE!!!!!!!!!!! for a single conversion...been there, done that, removed after the test fitting.....

I'm actually looking at a 86 87 frame. its very narrow. only thing is the alu frame, I can't just weld in brackets.  I always wanted to try Alumiloy(sp?) alum. rodfs that you use a torch to weld.

what did you do for the oil cooler?  I think I'm going to get a different oil-cooler and move it to a position of a radiator. not a side mount like the stock o-cooler.

i used a KATANA 600/750 oil cooler
or an 86-89 gsxr750 oil cooler

you going street or track with your project?
