How big is too big? (Bike's people - mind's OUT of gutter)

So I was thinking (yes, I know, I'm sorry)  :dunno_white:

ANYWHO:

Is there a bike out there that scares you? What is it and why does it scare you? An R1 scares me - lots of power, deadly fast, and you don't realize you're in too deep until you're, well, in too deep!

Be honest - what bike scares you?

Oh and in a totally unrelated yet drunken correlation - my local shop racing guy was at Road America this weekend and came back with 4 crashed bikes (between him and the other guy) and a broken rib. THAT scares me!

Honestly, I am not really afraid of any bike. If given the chance, I'd take an R1 or a Busa out for a spin.

Of course, I couldn't ride either of them - or even a 600 supersport - to it's full potential. Hell, I can't even ride the GS500 to it's full potential. But just taking'em out for a spin, yup I'd do it.
Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

If you've ever seen and 999R in person, you wouldn't be scared.  That thing is so little.  I'm not sure I would even fit on it.  It looks like a pocket bike.
I consider it to be "cute", but not scary.  The MV Agusta F4 1000 is cute, too.

I agree with the Miranda, the R1 is scary.  The '05 ZX10R is scary, and the '06 CBR1000RR is scary.

That's the thing. It's a small bike, yet it's got gut wrenching power all over the place. The I-4 liter bikes are a lot more docile until you get them up into the power band. That's where they scream. The 999R, on the other hand, starts out at IDLE with scary amounts of power.

That's what you're supposed to do your second year of racing.  The third year is when you WIN!

Bikes that scare me...Boss Hog V8, V-Max (a little), 'Busa (kinda), '86 or newer Goldwings, '86 Ninja 1000R, GS1150E, and that touring bike made in South America with the 1600cc VW bug motor.  Add to that; Kawasaki H1 and H2.

Oh, and KTM 950 Adventure, BMW R1150GS, I think a KTM SuperDuke would scare me, too.  Buell Ulysses, GSXR1k, and the newer ZX-10R.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

I'm sure you've got some dyno runs you want to show me, so just go ahead and post them.  I want to see what it looks like to make scary power from idle.

We have a local Ducati dealer that's having an anniversary party next week - every time we go there my b/f drools over that bike - he loves them as much as he loves breathing. He even got it tattooed on his arm!!!!

Not my cup of tea, but an Agusta - that's virilie power  :kiss3: Those exhaust pipes are so very very sexy...

Well, I should clarify, the torque is a big factor too. And since it's hard to get an off idle dyno reading, I'm only basing it on what others have told me (I've talked to 3 or 4 999R owners, at least).

2000RPM, 50ft-lbs of torque.

Yeah.
