Help the shop is screwing me!!!

I just drove my bike 4000km across the country and on the ride it started bogging down when I really opened up the throttle.  So I  got my bike into the shop to get it running right.  They said that one cabureator was running at 9% and one at 1% so they set both to 4%  (on workorder it says EGA#2 was 9% #1 was 1% set both to 4%)   So I get my bike back and it is still bogging down AND now it stalls somethimes when I take off from red lights and such.  So I take it back in and they tell me the needle in my carbureator is bent.  They took 5 weeks getting two needles in neither of which fit and then they tell me that "its looks like you have a jet kit"  Well yes there is a jet kit, so now they are getting the jet kit needle.
SO I wonder....     how would I bend the needle?  I think that they must have done this when they were working on my bike and is this the actual problem?  I have a '96 GS500 with jet kit and Yosh pipe which I bought last year and it ran fine all last season.  Thanks for any help     Rob

here is a bump for you.. im clueless on what's up.

i would say vaccume leak or something.. is this only when its warm or even when teh engine is running cold.. if its warm it could mean N things.

I feel your pain, but I don't have any answers. :( I've got similar carb problems (on my 2000), and the same shop has "fixed" it three times. I keep ending up broken down on the side of the road. I'm going to a new shop tomorrow. If I hear anything relevant, I'll post it for ya.

I think the garage dudes don`t have a clue watch wrong with your bike. Synchronizing and setting up the carbs can be done from the outside, so no need to remove or open the carbs. I don`t see how they could bent those needles. And I don`t think the needles are bent, I just think they don`t have a clue what could be wrong. Setting up a gs with a jet kit is very though, but it is possible. These guy`s definitly don`t know what they are doing, a normal garage would notice the jet kit immediatly, also because of the readings. So I suggest you stop going to these guys and find some other good garage. Maybe you can ask here at GStwin.com if someone knows a good garage in your area. Good luck!

Yea, post your area (you can set the info under "edit profile" link at top of the page).  Maybe someone can point you in the right direction of a good shop because this place seems like they suck.

Yes that shop sucks if they can't tell the difference between a stock needle and a dynojet or Factory needle...

Rob- You said that it was bogging down at high throttle openings. Do you mean when you whack it open it stumbles or is it when you are riding along at 80mph or so and it starts to loose power.

When I am cruising at 100km  or so and really lay on the throttle the bike chokes like its not getting gas or something and will actually slow down.  It seems to be fine if I gently role on the throttle little by little.  This is happening when the weather is fine and the bike is warmed up, actually all the time.  Since the last time they "fixed" my bike I would drive in the city and it would seem ok, then I would stop at a red light or stop sign and the bike would actually choke out when I tried to pull away.  I could then usually stop the bike restart it and it would be fine.

OK somehting bothered me about this post - the original post just couldn't put my finger on it till now.
OK 9% ega on 1 cylinder and 1% on the other...How did they measure that.
EGA is exhaust gas analyser. And the bike has a 2 into 1 pipe...no way to get an EGA in there wihtout drilling holes in the healer pipes and even then the crossover has to be blocked off. And they set it to 4%...
Anyway they probably analysed a different bike like a TL1000 that has 2 pipes and gave you the sheet at best, of course the worst case is they are flat making up stuff.
Cool.

You "could" put the EG sensor on a long flexible stick and ram it up the pipe to get pass the collector and get a fair reading of each cylinder (except for contamination from the cross over).

But yeah, its more likely they were BSing him... :(

Srinath, you can measure it right by drilling 2 holes in each pipe just at the beginning, so where they are attached to the engine block. At least that`s what they did with mine. Because they drilled them right at the beginning, the crossover won`t give you any problem.

How big were the holes...Mine had to have a monstrous hole in it when I put an o2 sensor on it.

Being is a customer service job,  I went in and told them there service sucked.  The first time the bike was in they had it for a week and made it worse then the had the bike from June 13th to July 22.  I got the bike back today and paid for the parts. (two needles and o-ring) and no labour as I told them I paid for the labour last time.  They were not happy and took the labour off very churlishly, I was not happy and they will see no business from me ever again.  Tomorrow I will take it out and see if it is running better.  Hopefully as I am planning on biking down to Sturgis!!!  WEEEEEEEE
