I love it when evil people suffer...

Took a trip down a great motorcycling road this afternoon on the way home from putt-putt.  No sooner than I got on the road, all the riders I pass are patting the top of their heads.  I slow down to the speed limit, don't need my insurance going up right now.  A red sports car blows by me, passenger flipping me off as he passes.  I continue along at the speed limit, wondering if I will see the sports car again.  I
round a bend, and low and behold, the guy is just handing his license to the cop.  I just cruise on pass, don't even bother looking.  And, yes, I did spread the word on up ahead.  Is it mean to say that these two idiots made my day?

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof, is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools....

Thanks to advances in automation, Nike shoes will be made by robots. Unfortunately, the robots will be made by children in Malaysia.

I feel sorry for the guy the Harley rider hit.  That fella probably didn't deserve the annoyance he's now got.

That's the trouble with two vehicle accidents -- the innocent guy suffers for the mistakes of others.

Good story though.

Pardon my display of ignorance, but what's the meaning of patting the top of their heads?

Typically means Cop Ahead.  It can also mean that your high-beam is on.

Definitely pay attention when you see riders pat their helmets.  They are trying to save you a ticket.  I likely ould have received a ticket had they not informed me.  It's a road with a 25 speed limit but riders take it in the 40s....  And spread the word to riders on the other side.

Yep, po-po was out in force on the hill today, or rather at the bottom of Hwy9 waitin' for us; four SUV's.  Mickey-D100 and I had to go down 9 to get home, and everybody's pattin' their head.  I acknowledge by patting and nodding back. At the bottom there's about 4 bikes against the guardrail, and sure enough there's three of 'em (police SUV's).

Where were you at JBeaber?
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Great story! I prefer it when innocents don't suffer and no one gets hurt.

And while I was on a Doc Wong group ride (sportbikes) last year, there were a group of Harleys going the opposite direction, and they warned us of the popo up ahead. That was very cool.

I was at the Castro Valley end of Redwood Road.  Brilliant riding today.  Much fun.  He was the only cop I saw.  Just a fun day of riding today.  I'm just under 500 miles on the bike now, so it's first service will be this weekend.  My girlfriend and I also broke in the Chatterboxes.  Really fun and nice to have.

happened to us on the malibu ride yesterday. we were in a hot little section of mulholland when a guy on an MV goes by the other way, feverishly patting his head. we slowed to a crawl...and went by the officer a few turns ahead! we were going so slow he didnt even bother turning the radar on us (rider behind me has radar detector-which works!). thank you mister MV rider!

A big yes on the helmet pat -always look for it.

As far as the res car.  You're nicer that me, I'd have stopped and told the cop he blew by me and was driving like an idiot.

While we are on the subject, does a thumbs up mean no cops? I've seen a few riders give me a wave and switch to a thumbs up or occasionally just give a thumbs up. No cops is my only guess.

Over here we don't tend to wave, you get alot of nods riding around. Even i get some when im ony my little 50! Infact i pulled up next a gixxer the other day and
the guy on it was chatting to me. Scooter people get no nods and so it should be :) If they cant be arsed with gears they cant be arsed with riding in my opinon.

If theres a cop of speed camera bikes flash there lights at each other here usually returned with a thumbs up :). Dunno how that would work in America though because alot of you seem to ride with full beam? alot of the time.

Yeah, I have both received and given the good old helmat pat.  I don't know if it would have saved me a ticket but i appriciated the warning none the less.  Sure enough right around the next blind turn there was a patrol car and a bike cop just sitting there about 300ft up.  I waved at the cops and the bike cop waved back.

Then about a mile down the road I gave the helmat pat to a group of three on gixxers, they didn't acknowledge nor slow down.  Ehh if htey got it they deserved it.

Most riders here in PA wave..I dont unless they wave to me..  I made a rule and only wave back to riders who wear their helmets  :thumb:

I've made the mistake of waving to scooters about 4 times now (and none returned the gesture) :dunno_white:
