Has anyone damaged your bike when you've left it parked somewhere?

Yesterday I left my bike in a car park, with my alarmed xena disc lock for 5 minutes at the most as I went to the post office.

When I got back to my bike I noticed the disc lock was up-tight against the swing arm. I thought, hmm, maybe the bike had rolled alittle. Better be more carefull when I park it.

Then after starting the bike and heading into traffic I noticed my mirrors were pointing in stupid angles.

I thought, bloody hell some ones mucked around with my bike. I pulled over adjusted the mirrors, looked down to ensure my bike's tyres were still inflated then road off.

Wasn't till today when I went to wash it did I notice the handle bar end, brake lever, crank case and muffler of my new and otherwise immaculate 2005 GS500F, had scratches on them.

Some F^C&ING P$C# must have knocked my bike over the day before!!!!

The drop must have been slow as they were only scratches not dents (so I'm guessing someone was sitting on it) but my bar ends were bent, and also must have bent my blinker stalk as it has a big graze up the underside of it.

Who ever did it, would have set the alarm off as soon as they moved it and after dropping it picked it back up.

If I saw them I would have  :2guns: :2guns: :2guns: and then pi$$ed on their grave.

Who goes around touching peoples bikes!

So lucky the damage was only minor and the fairing is still in tact. But that's not the point is it. I feel violated.

Never had anyone knock a bike over. I know people have sat on them before. Over time I only used my bike for rec riding and not for primary transportation. Less time having to park it where it could get damaged.

Vandalizism does suck. I had 2 tires on my truck slashed last week. Just a victim of random vandalism. Luckily my g/f has the same tires on her truck so I was able to borrow her spare. $338 for 2 new tires.
Common sense in not very common.

My Name Is Dave

I would farking freak if I came out and found that. I can't even imagine hopping on a bike that you know nothing about. "Hey, take a picture of me on this bike!" Not sweet.

Had some neighborhood kids apparently playing on my bike and knocked it over.  Broke the turn signal and clutch lever.

Did you have their parents pay for it or what. :o

Can't prove it.  I only had one of the other kids hint to me that that might have been what happened.

I had a guy back into my '04 a week after I got it. Thankfully he came in and told someone he knocked a bike over. If he hadn't, there are cameras out there that would have seen it, but it still sucked. My bike was in the shop for a month as I dealt with his insurance company. Bent bars, bent bar end, scratched turn signals, fairings (this was before I went naked), crank case covers, and a slight dent in the tank.

Man thats just wrong. Just think if we had bigger bikes that shaZam! would have problaly have still been pinning him to the ground when you got outside. Now that would have been funny.  . Caught in the act.

My dad dropped it learning on it and felt horrible (it was maybe a month old.) I was more worried for him b/c it went down on him but he's al good and a new signal and such on the bike. No worries. He wants some experience before he takes the MSF (although it's not needed) I fugre I'd teach him a bit on my bike..

I always thought I'd dread seeing it down but when it came to worrying about father or bike, there was no contest. Now I have to convince him to get going and get the MSF done.  :)

So sorry about your bike. That really sucks, and I'd feel violated, too. Sometimes people really suck!

My mum managed t lose control of the wheel barrow which went streight into my parked bike - smashed panel, repaired, filled, repainted and restickered to the cost of alot of money hehe, they dont import the panals for my bike anymore. The only place in the country they get them shipped over especialy - theyre a fortune and the guys down there can never get your order rite - usually get wrong colour, pattern, MAKE! even wen u explain it clearly.

Since I don't have a bike, I can't really vote. But I'm posting anyway because I'm drunk.

As I guessed, the damage caused by a bike free falling is major.

Some one definately on my bike when it fell then.

While i work i park my bike under a window which is two feet from the counter i stand behind (fun job eh). Anyhow one day some kid about 10-12yrs old starts walking towards my bike, i watch him thinking to myself look but don't touch. All of a sudden he starts climbing all over it as though it is a piece of playground equipment. Within seconds i'm out the door to yell at him, in front of about 8 customers no less, I felt like a duck afterwards for yelling at a kid but his age was the last thing i was thinking about. Then the mother yells at me for having a go at the brat, something to the tune of "He's just a kid, he won't do any damage. And why do you park it there if you don't want anyone to sit on it?!". WTF!!
"wont do any damage ??" I say (rather loudly) "The kid was swinging off it like a monkey, it's incredibly easy to tip a bike. And what if it lands on him, he's built like a mosquito!. And if people would teach their kids some f%$#ing respect i wouldn't have to worry where i park it!". Or something to that effect.
Afterwards the customers who had witnessed this little display where somewhat amused, saying things such as "little punk", "I can't blame you", "Do we get to see that every time we come here. Chuckle chuckle.", "well it is a nice bike.". However some said nothing at all, I think because i scared them.

I'm with you Longinus.

As a kid I would never, ever think of touching another persons motorbike.

I guess my parents did teach me respect.  :thumb:

+1.  I always liked motorcycles a lot but i would never think of touching someone elses property.  I have seen people do really retarded stuff and then simply walk away.  My bike has been down once by someone knocking it over and twice maybe three times due to wind + hot asphalt or not so great parking.  I have also walked outside of my own apt and seen people putting cigaurettes out on my paint cause i parked in the carport of the duplex.  Now i grabbed that guys arm and bitched at him and he just looked at me with a drunk look on his face.  Yeah idiots are a part of life, i just deal, i havn't punch that many of them yet

My bf and I have had kids come over and touch our bikes. We give any kid coming within 20 feet of us the evil eye, and I snarl at them. If they actually make it over to the bikes and touch them, they're fair game to fry for dinner.  :icon_mrgreen:

Edit: if any parent came over with a young child who wanted to touch the bikes or sit on them (under our supervision), we'd probably say yes, but we've never yet come across a parent that cares what their little darling is doing around the bikes/cars/etc.  :nono:
