How do you shave?

How about how often you guys shave? I'm pretty lucky and can go a week inbetween shaving. I mean, I can start looking a little rough and Federline-ish by the 6th day or so, but I can still pull it off.

From earlier posts, it sounds like I'm one of the lucky ones. Until I try to grow a beard...then I won't be so pleased.

I still think you're lucky though. I know some guys that MUST shave every single morning, and maybe even twice one day, like in the morning for work and in the evening before a date. That's rough. Literally.

And as for your shaved legs...thanks for the imagery. Boo hiss!

I consider myself a shaving master. I shave my face and head daily. I started loosing my hair in my mid 20's so I said to hell with it.

The basics are simple

1- a sharp blade. I am using the Mach III blades now. The turbo blades have lotion, but you can do that yourself. I believe they have dulled down the old blades to sell the new 'turbo' blades. Honestly the old style blades ' double' work just as well, but don't last as long.

2- really hot water. I tried using shaving cream, but decided it is really not need unless you have really hard water. I shave in the shower with the water at the point where I can just barely stand it. This will open your pores and let the hair become more soft. I have a very rough beard.

3- angle of attack. It takes a lot of practice, but the angle and pressure of you razor is crucial. You wan't the blades to be at about 45 degrees to you skin with a firm and steady pressure.

It is also better to take long smooth strokes. This will raise the hair before your blade gets to it. Rub your hand down you skin. Yo can see this affect in action.

Mr. Pantablo is correct for that good shave you will need to shave an area twice. Once with the grain and once against it.  Now this can be two much of a good thing and is really only recomended for the 'friday night shave'.

I like to shave daily, but I take at least one day a week off to let my skin heal.

Dave you suck. :flipoff: If I waited a week I'd look like Billy Gibbons. :o

When I use my Braun, I have to shave everyday.  Actually, if I shave in the morning before work, I could use another shave before going out at night.  I'm sometimes a little lazy and don't shave on Saturday or Sunday, and by Monday morning I'm a hairy beast.  I hate it, it drives me nuts, I can't stand looking scruffy, but I'm also super lazy.

When I use my Mach 3, I can go maybe a day and half, but I'd still need to shave everyday.

And to those considering electrics, my advice is don't cheap out.  My first one was a cheap Remington from Walmart and it was a piece of crap.  It was downright painful to use that thing and it did a pretty lousy job.  It pulled and left my face feeling like I shaved with a grinding wheel.  My Braun on the other hand is awesome.  It cuts pretty close and doesn't pull at all, even after not shaving for a few days.

Yeah, it's great until you actually want some facial hair. If I try to grow it out, it just looks like one of you guys shaved and I put glue on my face and sprinkled your clippings onto it. Not sweet.

I'm a swimmer, we shave for our championship meets but thats only a couple times a year. You certainly didn't do that for every race did you?

To be fair, when you shave it probably doesn't include your arms, chest, back, and head. Unless you're actually a bear.  8)

Well when I shave it includes my legs, and armpits, anda few other places and like I said I do this damn near everyday.  So for a couple of months out of the year you shaved your enitre body.... bid deal.... I will be doing this the rest of my life.  Total time according to life expectancy for me will be around 64 years.

Yeah that does suck. I'm really glad I'm not a girl.

Electrics for me suck, to the point where all I used them for was the trimmer.  After my last one died I just replaced it with a trimmer that runs on AA batteries.  The only time I use it is to cut long hair off before using the blade so it doesn't clog up the razor, a cheap Select Trac II.  I have a Mach III Turbo at my GFs house and it doesn't clog up like the Select Trac.

Once every two days to stay smooth.

I can't use an electric razor.  I've got a pretty heavy beard, even though it is blonde.  I grow a beard every winter, which is awsome.

One time I was at a buddy's house, using the restroom, and his wife had a bottle of Nair on the counter.  I rubbed some of it on my knees, waited a few seconds, and wiped it off.  Took the hair clean off.  Also I had scabs on each knee from a crash I had in a mountain bike race.  The Nair totally melted the scabs, so I had hairy legs and hairless knees with pink spots in the middle.    Looked pretty tough.

My wife surprised me with a Gillette Fusion 5-blader last night. i tried it out this morning. It was admittedly better than the Mach 3...but no miracle cure for skin irritation. i usually use gel shaving "cream," and always shave as soon as i get out of the shower so my coarse facial hair is at least a little softer.

i'm currently rocking a 6" goatee. It looks hilarious flapping out of the bottom of my full-face helmet!  O0
