Hello:

I put new grips on but can't get the throttle bar end screwed back in.  I don't know what to do.  It seems like there is nothing to screw it into.  The other side is fine....but I can't seem to figure it out.  Please help

does your bar end currently look like this?








If so, just insert, and tighten using the screw on the end outside of the bar, the rubber section will expand..... if not. I'm of no help.  This is the stock bar end on my 2006

Thanks a lot for the quick reply.  I don't see that long nut on mine.  all I see is a little rubber hole on the end of the bar.  I have a screw that goes through the bar end & a regular nut at the inside of the bar end.  Maybe that long nut like in your picture is behind the rubber or on the inside of the grip on mine.  I have a 2004 GS500F.  Thanks again & if you can help more I would really appriciate it.

He's got an '04, so he does have the expansion type bar ends.

MJM, make sure that you tighten the nut to push against the rubber a small bit, expanding it slightly. Then push it in there and then use a screwdriver to tighten it further.

there isn't a "Long Nut"... that big black section is just rubber........



the flared nut (gold one) stays put when you tighten because of friction with the rubber, and the tighter you make it, the more friction, the better it stays.



Secondly, the rubber is going to get compressed and expand holding things in place.....


lean your bike over a bit though and make sure to the right and make sure that nothing is floating around inside your bars.

Glad I happened to read this, I was just about to ask the same question. Thanks for the Info

From reading your posts here is what I think happened.  When you unscrewed the bar end the bolt threaded completely out of the nut inside the handlebar.  The rubber expanding part and the loose nut are still down inside the bar.  If so, you'll need to grab the rubber bit with needle nose pliers or something and work it out.  The nut might have fallen down the bend in the bars so you might have to tilt the bike over or stick a magnet down the bar to get the nut.  Once you've got all the pieces out reassemble it and then install it on the bar.
