yeah... where are you.... I'd help

If you take it to a shop... it'll cost some bucks... prolly 4 hours of labor... maybe more... especially if you're looking into the head gasket and cylinder gasket...

Find a gs'er near you... we all love doing that stuff... (we all is a maybe an overstatement.... most of us like this stuff)

Just to pull my head was like 250 from a shop.... so it goes up from there.... i'd say around 500-650 dollars

DIY !!!!!!

My local shop (just got off the phone) quoted me $800 to replace every gasket in the engine.
IF.... I provided the gaskets  :o

MAN... O.. MAN.  I can't see paying some guy $70/hour, to read a book and put everything together.

Unless you just have to have a warranty and peace of mind... or just lazy.

MY two pennies.....DIY.  If you have the clymers look it over and see if yu would trust yourself to do the job.

I'll pay for gas if anyone wants to come help me out, I just think I might be alittle in over my head.

Change all the gaskets? :icon_confused:  Are they all leaking?  That's a big job and gaskets can be notoriously tough to scrape off the engine cases.  And it doesn't really make sense to do all that and not change out the seals not to mention valve adjustment and clutch plate inspection while you're into it.  Me, I'd just change what needs a'changin' and replace the other gaskets later when the need/opportunity arises.  Let if it ain't broke, don't fix it be your guide.

Not sure which head gasket is leaking, lower or the upper one.  Also have a leak around the chain tensioner, and yes the vavles need re-shimmed as well.  1, I havn't moved my tools down yet.  2, I've never worked on a motorcycle before,  if I'm going to take the head off I might as well have the gaskets around the covers and the pan replaced.  Anyone willing to make the drive and help?  I have a guest bedroom, will pay for gas and food/beer.

lost me on that one.

why would you even have to touch the bottom end? I think you shouldn't touch the bottom end. just more work. if it's not leaking don't compromise it.

a top end rebuild is not that dificult.  (stay tuned for my how-to as soon as the gaskets come in.)

removing the head and cylinders can (and is recommended) be removed while the engine is in the bike.  Clymers book is very detailed on doing this.
