Welcome to the club. It is standard on the '04 and '05 models. I thing it costs $35 to get it on the '06's.  ;)

Here's one of the threads that came up with a search:

It's fairly normal, mine is worse when wet. I would not get too concerned about it.

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

Welcome Z.  There are many things that put our little GS's ahead of the competition.  And as Dave said the standard squeel is one  .  I have about 4500 miles on mine and It has had the squeel from day one.  Only happens when light to lightly moderate pressure is put on the back brake.  You will get used to it before you know it.  One thing you could check though is your rear wheel alignment, i have noticed that if my alighnment is off even a little then the brake will be a lot more fussy.
