I don't understand the logic of moving a bike out of a "no parking zone" like that other than just to flex some power. I feel like people get more frustrated in a busy parking lot to find a single bike taking up an entire spot (especially when they try to turn in only to find there was a bike hiding behind a Maibatsu Monstrosity). I don't have a problem taking up an entire spot, an entire lane or whatever else a full sized cage might be entitled to, but if I park out of the way on the sidewalk by the building itself or in a cross-hatched area only marked off because it couldn't be turned into a full space I feel like I'm helping out others as well as myself. No doubt its hugely more convenient for me, but it also leaves a space for someone else. Anyway, I have a habit of always locking my bars via the built in function so anyone trying to move it wouldn't get very far...althought that might be worse for me if someone got pissed and just dropped it...I hate people too!

By the way, you are entitled to an entire spot in a parking lot, so don't feel bad for taking one. Even if the lot's full. The cages have no more right to them than us.

why don;t you just get a two way alarm that has the function where if anybody gets to close to your bike it gives a waring and then sends a signal to you, so you know whats happening.

Yeah, I know what you mean. There are some weird misconceptions that people have about motorcycles. They act like they're little toys, and interacting with them on public roads is unreasonable and a nuisance. I've had times where I pull into a parking spot and another car comes creeping up like he's gonna jump in there with to me. Easy there, turbo; the only thing I'm gonna be sharing with anyone from your family is a bed with your daughter.

I started parking in the center of the space with my rear fender about lined up with the rear of the parked cars. There's a lot of space in front of me, but cars now see the bike much sooner, and don't try to swoop into the space.

Exactly, that's the best way to park. That may make people more pissed (how dare he not pull all the way in? Now I can't park behind him!), but it saves your bike from getting rammed. Hopefully...

Just to add an update to the original Vent.  I get a call from my fiancee this morning (we work together).  The building engineer was on his phone standing next to my bike.  I figured he'd moved it yesterday.  Turns out ........ he picked it up for me this morning.  Someone knocked it over AGAIN!!

Last night I put the heavy chain on it and made it really visible so noone could move the bike without seeing the chain.  So they just knocked it over.

That brings the grand total to 2 knockovers and 1 move.  I think I may sleep in my car and watch tomorrow morning with my paintball gun handy.

*Is* it possible for you to put something like a Scorpio alarm on it that pages you when your bike is messed with?   

how about setting up a camera?

I've thought about an alarm but I live 45 miles away so that might not be the best.  Even when I stay at my fiancee's, that's 20 minutes away.

I've also thought about a camera.  If I can find an inexpensive outdoor one that can run on batteries, I'll be hooking that up as soon as possible.

In the meantime, I guess I'll just move the bike to where the other bikes are parked .. and chain it to a steel pole.  That would make it harder to tip, but also more visible to passerby at night.

What about one of the Xena disc locks with alarms on them? I've heard they're pretty touchy, should go off if someone moves it at all.

I'm going to move it to another location in the garage and chain it to the air handler for the building.  Regardless, the engineer has a 'busa so picking my bike up is quite easy for him if need be.

Now I'll just worry about the brand new non-maintenance free battery I'm putting in this afternoon.  Could not for the life of me make the Everstart work.  Oh well.

 Is it possible for you to get a rearstand and lock it to a nearby pole when not in use?  Use the stand to lift the rear tire off the ground (stabilizing the bike vertically), and lock the bike to the stand, preventing anyone from taking it down?

Someone can ALWAYS mess with your ride, be it car or bike, if you're not around.  It's jelousy.  Personally, I'd find a better space.

I moved it down to a lower level where it's not visible from the street.  And it's chained up pretty good.  Now that it's not in an actual parking spot, I have a feeling it won't piss anyone off.
