got a question. the magnificent feat of suzuki engineering,
(fork brace). with its brilliant use of slotted holes. would it work if i had one made out of 1/4 " steel? pro's&cons anyone thanks

well 1/4 inch steel is prolly stronger than 2000 series aluminum, but 6061 or 7075 aluminum is stronger than mild steel. They typically make it from 6061 or 7075 and its 1/2 inch thick. So Its not ideal but better than the crapper stocker. Is there a reason you cant make it from aluminum. The bolt holes should be tight and fitted on the bike so there is no play. There was this genius that made like 10 braces just like the stock and had them all bolted on top of each other and he said it worked great

I didn't. My 89 is 5/8 inch thick 7075 cut and fitted for it. it didn't fit on my 90 even.

The OEM part ISN'T a fork brace.  Its a bracket for attaching the front fender to the forks.
The holes are slotted to allow for the manufacturing tolerances in the forks.

James, I think you're wrong. That dinky little piece of tin IS the fork brace, that happens to also function as a fender mount. You can't go riding without it or the forks will twist-they're too weak to support themselves.

If it is, its not a very good one.  

yeah, was contemplating making one out of either 1/4" alum. or s.s.

3/8 inch minimum...esp if its Aluminium....Get 6061 atleast.

i made mine out of 1/4 356 alum t6 heat treated at work.    i polished it and it looks pretty good.    i guess it works ok i cant tell any defrence.       see ya.
