I walked by the BMW dealer in the city the other day, and they had one in the window. So sexy....

Jake D

I actually looked at those on Saturday, too.  I stopped by a BMW dealer here to see if they had a deal on helmets (I crash tested my new one).  Nice bike.  Looks heavy.

Did you see the size of that exhausts?  Looks like it is twice as long as a wileyco, and twice as big around.
Huge.

Many of the ancients believe that Jake D was made of solid stone.

Egaeus

That's a pretty sexy bike.  The Honda 919 made my jaw drop when I saw it at the dealer the other day.

If you buy a beemer least you'll never need a side stand - you can just lean em over onto the engine casting LOL  :thumb: I always hated the BMW put our engines in sideways rubbish. Buy they're bikes are gorgeous, looks and performance and the kit they put on them. Only problem is the console is abit cheap on all BMW's so far - all rubber buttons and things. Wish they would put proper shaped engines in them.

My dad just purchased a sports tourer from BMW i think it was a k1200rs or something. Lovely bike, big and heavy but very comfortable and all sorts of gadgetry and shaft drive. They also covered up the silly engine with the fairing which is good. He says its like sitting on an engine theres so much torque.

The reason they have those "silly engines" in them the way they are is that they don't need a counterbalancer because they are naturally balanced engines. That means no vibration to kill the engine mounts or your hands because of excessive vibration.

How are rubber buttons cheap? It's a lot better than hard, cheap plastic.

Theres nothing wrong with having rubber buttons but it just doesnt seem to fit. I mean you sit inside a beemer and you've got leather and wood, aluminium or carbon fibre for all the trips and fancy buttons etc. When you look at the beemer bikes they look well made and tricked out, little things like the BMW badge and naming on the brake calipers and all sorts of little things which cry attention to detail. Then you sit on one (and this is my personal opinon) look down at the bars and it just seems abit cheap. You have big bulky buttons on the bars, loads of space everywhere. I mean i can see why they do it on the touring bikes because everything you want to be simple and easy to use and to last but on the sports bikes you get identical grips and the "easy to press everything, large text" controls. I was just expecting them to be more refined and precise and have great attention to detail like the "outside" of the bike. But at the end of the day it doesn't bother me too much just pointing out. Its how the bike goes really that matters.

I don't think there is ANY leather OR wood on a Beemer. The Beemer guys are crazy about touring, and any exposure to the elements would destroy those things. Same with the aluminum. And carbon fiber? On a Beemer? Maybe as an aftermarket accessory, but not as a factory option.

Of course there are going to be large buttons with lots of space. Have you tried doing ANYTHING with gloves on? Try operating tiny buttoned controls with gloved hands. It's not very easy. It's especially nice when you're on your 600th mile of the day on day 4 of your 6000 mile tour in the snow and ice and rain while fire and brimstone raining down like SOME Beemer guys do.

The K1200S and K1200R aren't sport bikes, really. They are powerhouses. Massive muscle bikes. Sport tourers, almost. Hell, the 'Busa is toted as a sport tourer in a lot of cases, and it's comparable to the K1200S. And of course the buttons have esay to read text. There are a lot of them on there due to all the extra options availible on the Beemers. The easy to press buttons on the K1200S and R follow the same function as those on the touring bikes. Why should they be smaller and more difficult to operate?

Just pointing it all out.

I think he meant when you sit inside a bmw car vs sitting on the bike.

I really like those bikes. I don't like the fact that I would have to spend a bunch of money for it, but that's just because I'm cheap  :laugh:

I sat on a new 'busa for the first time the other day. Thought it was going to be uncomfortable like the GSXR's...boy was I wrong. That's probably one of the most comfortable bikes I have sat on yet.  :thumb:

Yea i did mean sat in a car and then compared with the externals of the bikes you get the same beemer class and stylish design. But when you sit on it and look down you can't help but feel that it doesn't quite suit the exterior of the bike. Im not complaining about its functionality just mearly saying it doesn't go with the overall feel for me. Especially when all beemer streebikes seem to have an identical console setup when you arn't going to be touring much on them. Its just the same as if you sit on a honda goldwing etc. . you see the nice big easy to use controls for when you've got gloves on etc. . but when you sit on a fireblade or alternative honda it has a different style. Beemers seem to have a very similar style and when your going to pay 10grand plus for a bike id like to see they didn't just slap on the standard kit for all bikes and spend all their time on the exterior looks.

i think i personally like the R 1150 R better. Of course, i'd take either one...if someone else was paying for it.

And if i remember correctly, the spelling differentiation is:

Beemer = motorcycle
Bimmer = car
Don't sweat the petty things...and don't pet the sweaty things.

Jake D

Correct.

Beemer = bike.

Bimmer = car.

Wow.....I don't know what is more sad....the fact that there's a seperate word for the two....or that people know it  :laugh: :laugh:

We had a BMW 320i in the family 25 years ago.  Everybody called it a beemer.  Back then, bimmer was just the equivalent used by old timers.  Maybe things have changed.... :dunno_white:

Speaking of change, a BMW K-series with a transverse I-4.  Now if they'd just ditch that ugly telelever...   :icon_rolleyes:

Always liked those, but they're heavy and long.
