stock is 16f 39r. Why not just put a smaller one on the front for $13.99??? I just put a 15 on the front. About a 15 minute job including tightening the chain.

It was very simple. http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=20468.0 Follow the instructions in that link to the part where you have the pic of the sprocket. Remove the sprocket and chain, install the new sprocket in the chain slide it over the spline reinstall the snap ring adjust the chain and reassemble. It literally took me 15 minutes and half of that was adjusting the chain. I used a impact wrench to loosen the rear axle nut and to snug it after i adjusted the chain to keep the wheel from moving. Once it was snug i torqued it with a torque wrench. I am not sure if the rear wheel will try to move if you are using just hand tools to tighten the axle nut.

is that a noticeable power difference and is it safe for the engine

Jason

Mine went from indicated 60mph/4800rpm to 60mph/5200rpm. Yes it's safe and it is noticable. I would imagine on the very top end you will lose about 8-10mph, but you'll gain noticable acceleration due to the increase in rpms.

If you are really desperate for a bigger rear sprocket there are plenty of specialist companies out there who will be quite happy to make one for you as a one-off. Look for `Industrial Gear/sprocket manufacturers` (or something similar) in the yellow pages or do a websearch, give them a call and tell them what you want. They will need the original sprocket as a sample so they can pick-up on the mounting centers and chain-pitch. They will make even be able to harden it to a higher degree than normal so it lasts longer, but make sure its plated to prevent corrosion.........just dont expect a cheap price on par with OEM prices!
