I like that the new 3-series have availible AWD. That's pretty awesome, needless to say.

I'm also a big fan of the Z4. If only reliability were a bit higher I'd consider it over the S2000 (if I had money, of course).

The 3-series has had AWD varients for quite some time.  I've never had an issue with reliabillity.  My 93 325iS had 254,000 miles with only an updated waterpump housing and normal maintanance.  My current 328i has 170,000 miles and has only fallen victem to a coolant leak I can't find (sucks air in) and my a/c fan is acting screwy right now.

Out of the many cars I've owned, my 3-series bimmers are the only ones to be able to hang with my old-school supras' reliabillity.

He would have to pay for it anyway cause his warranties are over anyway. So what's your point. He wasn't going to kill his car right off the bat he waited til the warranties are done of course.

So sorry.  I though you said it would be better to get a WRX and put $4000 in bolt on parts on it than get an STi (you did).  I guess you meant to say if you have a WRX with 60,000 miles on it, it is better to bolt parts on it than buy and STi.

My point is, buying an STi is better because you get one of the hottest cars on the market with a warranty. Plus, have you ever seen a tuner car for sale on e-bay.  It reads like this, "Tons of mods, over 500 rear wheel hp.  I have $10,000 invested in the motor alone.  It can all be yours for about $5,000 under blue book value."

Once you start dorking with a car, you pretty much should just run it into the ground 'cause your re-sale is shite after that.  Same with bikes.   Any bike with a Power Commander III and Yosh slip on  should be avoided on the re-sale market.

I agree with this. I wouldn't buy anything very heavily modded. You never know what they really did to it. Just like my rx-7, it's a nice car, and I know that all the work on it is perfect, but the next guy wouldn't have a clue how things were done. But I plan on keeping this car till I die so doesn't really matter.

Just wondering but it's a subaru. . . .how much of a resale value can it have?  What Boss500 was trying to say is that his friend bought an WRX put 4K into it and was faster and cheaper than buying a base price STi.  His friend started the work at about 40K, Subaru warranty is 3 years 36K miles,  and now has 55K on the clock.

IF you're the type that wants to mod your car then it would make sense to get the WRX if your not the type that wants to mod the car then get the STi.
Everybody knows there are two types of people. . those that like and want to mod their ride and those that want to leave it stock.  And yes modding ones car or bike does lower the resale value.  But everybody already knows that just like we know that a warranty does not last forever.

To each his own.

Subaru's have excellent re-sale value, so your post means nothing to me!

   Btw who in their right mind would wan't to buy turbo'd sports car used.   You know the damn thing was probably doged to death and on it's last leg.  It's just about as bad as buying a tuner car. . . .you never know how it was driven.

For my affordable dream car a Porsche Cayman S

No more post from me on this topic

except that Sub's do not have a excellent resale value, honda, bmw, toyota, those companies have excellent resale value
Ok now you can have the last word  :icon_mrgreen:

Nope.  Subi's have excellent re-sale.   It is clear to all that you have little to no knowledge.

Oh I forgot something, then really no more

04 STi in excellent condition with 35K lost 12K off the sticker price. . . . .  thats in less than 2 years. . unless the car was bought within the 1st 6 months.  Not sure but that doest sound to excellent to me.  info from kellybluebook w/ kellybluebook averages.  and that was in excellent condition got worse when you looked at good and fair.

Yeah, but in 5 years it will still be at $20k.
And since this is the last word, at least that I'll read, because I'm going on vacation, I feel pretty good about our little talk.
