Will 2001 carbs work on a 1990 GS?

I may have a chance to pick up a spare set of carbs from a 2001 GS500.

1.  Will they work in a 1990 without any throttle cable mods?

2.  2001 carbs have an extra (mid) jet right?  If so, is there a performance/reliability gain in having the extra jet?

Give a man a fish, and you have fed him for a day.  Teach a man to fish, and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Most likely they will work ... cables are likely to be the biggest problem ...
Now The airbox end of an 01 is round but I believe its the same dia overall ... You got K&N or airbox ???
Cool.

Srinath,

Stock air box.  The carbs I'm interested in have the plastic thingies that go into the stock air box so thats not a problem.  I'm concerned with the throttle cable hookup though.

they will fit just fine, the cable's aren't a problem. yes, you will solve alot of your jetting issues with the newer carbs, she will be more reliable, will run better, and you will feel like she's a better bike.  but if you want to i have a couple of good sets of 89-2000 carbs, that i'll trade you straight across.
the left side of the bike is always from the riders point of view.

Agh...  I've been resisting rejetting on my '01 for so long, but all the talk is getting to me.  I have no complaints about the power, but I'm taking off at 6-8K all the time because the low-end is practically useless.  Making the low end useful is so tempting...

Well worth it, it's like a different bike. I really regret waiting as long as I did.

Yeah, I don't know why I'm waiting...  I think it's whenever I have free time I'd rather ride... :)
