Dog Carrier Construction Project

After I got my dog a pair of doggles for riding in the car (see www.doggles.com if you haven't heard), I'm thinking about building a platform for her to ride on the back of the bike.  She's a 30lb Brittany.  She loves the doggles and riding in the car with her head out the window so I think it's worth a shot on the bike.

The car seat belts they make for dogs should secure her fine, I just need to build an enclosure and attach it to the bike.  The car seat belts would need to attach to the back of the enclosure and I'm guessing that securing at both front corners would keep her secured.  With sides 10-12 inches high and only slightly wider than her body, she would be stable around turns.  I'd want something that attaches/detaches fairly easily since she wouldn't be riding that often and mostly just short trips around town.

Before I begin construction, I wanted to see if anyone has done this or has any suggestions.  Also, if you've seen any rear luggage that might be converted, let me know.

Now if I can only teach her to wave at other bikers... :thumb:

Not sure I quite understand you but could you modify a pet encloseur?  Or maybe a topcase? Then attach that to your bike?
Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 , Mains 147.5, Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

Check out this old post about rear luggage racks...might give you some ideas.

hi there, i have a friend back in nz aand he goes every where with his bloody dog he must have clocked up about 10000miles with it, he just gets it to jump up on the bike in front of him and it lies on the tank, lol, funniest shaZam! youve ever seen. but i think you getting a bit excessive with the seat belt ect. dogs arn't stupid they wont jusp from a moving bike, and if you have it up front you can have it between your arms knowing where it is all the time.
failing that, the topbox mount plate will probly be your best bet with an old record box, jam the dog in, and tie the sucker in place :thumb:

Wanna bet?

However the seatbelt bit is excessive for a completely different reason.  Think about...are YOU strapped to your bike?  Would you want to be?

On EX500Riders there's a dude who goes everywhere with his little terrier.  He modified a tank bag to act as one of those little doggy beds and the pooch just sits in it.  Personally, I would want the dog behind me...I don't look back there often enough to know if he's still there or not.
