Don't have that on my 2002.  Wonder if this is only something that occured with the older bikes.
Maybe I'm just lucky?
2002 GS500
2004 V-Strom 650 
is it time to check the valves?
2004 KLR250.

I've had it happen to me, but only at speeds above 90mph for extended periods of time (no questions).

i had that problem for a while till i realized my tank bag was sealing my gas cap down.  02 gs.
the left side of the bike is always from the riders point of view.

I've had it on an 05F at extended high loads, ie. road speeds +high wind +hills.
