Getting my first motorcycle, pretty much settled on the GS500F, but I can't find any on craigslist.
I called the dealer and they quoted me $5141 out the door for a brand new 06.
First time buying a motorcycle, so wonder if this is a good deal or no?

I still think it's a bad idea to buy new for your 1st bike.  There are tons of cheap, good condition 'E' models floating around out there and you can find 'F' models too if you're patient.  You'll save a lot on depreciation when it comes time to trade up and you won't cry when you drop it and add a couple of scratches.

what??? 51** tell them no. you can get it cheaper than that.  tell them 4500 out the door flat and pay cash if you can

Seriously? I'll be looking to get a new GS500F here in the next month or so and I'm going to e-mail every dealer within 50 miles and get their best OTD cash price. But I didn't think it would be anywhere near that low. Why would the sell it $600 under MSRP? I'm just curious because I live in California and in my research I haven't come across a price that low for a brand new GS.
No bike. =(

I checked just out of curiousity and the dealer near here wanted $6500 after assembly, tax, and dealer fees.

I agree with RB...  But you need to bring CASH to do this effectively...  Once the dealer sees green paper (and lots of it), they'll go down in price.

first off, i would never buy a new bike at the start-mid season. i would at winter or late fall. for this reason. the gs is not worth that much, it just isn't. get a 05 for 3900 or a 04 for 3000

Not true. Exactly the opposite, in fact. The dealer WANTS you to put the bike on credit. They make MASSIVE amounts of their profits on the interest they charge (23% APR, anyone?), and they're extremely happy to see you open the new credit account, and more likely to bargain with you. What you do, is go and open a credit account (have a parent cosign with you, if it's necessary for your credit), buy the bike, and pay the account off on the first payment. That way you don't pay unnecessary interest, but you'll get a better deal.

I'm just speaking from experience in the sales industry, just my advice, take it or leave it.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

uhm, my suzuki card is at 7%

And I paid 5500 out the door with Jacket, Helmet, Helmet Bag, Extra Face Shield and gloves.

Tax is a killer in California.  8.25% and registration was 143

Yeah. .but how's your credit? The lower your credit score, the higher (typically) your APR is..

Also, I forgot to say... even if your card is as low as 7%... that's 7% more money that they make off of you, compounded monthly... versus paying cash. You see why they're anxious to milk you for more money?

Ouch.. that was a low, low blow!   Nice thing is.. I make enough in 2 weeks to pay cash for my bike. No payments, no loans, no interest. I make enough in 4 weeks to pay for school for a semester. So in 6 weeks, I'll have a bike!   School comes first, unfortunately..
