Does anyone have some 2.50mm shims?

I have the west coast kit now and it doesn't have the size I need.  Does anybody have any 2.50 shims lying around?  I need three of them.  I could pay for them or trade some 2.60 - 2.62.

Thanks,

-M

2.50 is thinner than most GStwinners have (or need).  Since you're in the market for 3 of them, you may never gather them via the forum.  :dunno_white:

Check out THIS ONLINE SOURCE and see what you think.

To read about Rema1000's experience with that vendor, start at THIS POST.

Whether you order online, or order from your local dealer, or SWAP your dealer straight across, or gather the shims some other way ... here are some follow-up suggestions:

    1) Make sure the measurements and the math are right.
As I said, 2.50mm is pretty thin for the shims on a 2000 model.
Does the bike have a lot of miles on it?

    2) Keep the valve adjustment kit until you get the bike back together.

    3) Donate your old shims to the kit (except maybe the 2.62, since
you can't order those :icon_rolleyes:)  2.60 is a much more popular
size for folks doing a shim swap, and they'll love you for it!

Good tips, thanks Kerry.  I'm going to call around the 'zuki dealers tomorrow and see if I can find some semi-locally.  This is a rebuilt head and I think I went a little overboard grinding in the new valves.  That's the best reason I can come up for the tight fit.  I'll definitely add my old shims to the kit when I pass it along.  There is a 2.40 shim in the kit that was very helpful for finding the right size.

In the interest of "complete disclosure", I must confess that _I_ actually have a 2.50mm shim. :icon_rolleyes:  But only one!

It was sent to me by a fellow GStwinner to replace the out-of-spec shim that I had to put back in the engine at the end of my video.  One of these days I'll get around to opening 'er up again.

According to my records I've only put on 3400 miles since I shot the video at the end of October 2004....  Not much for a year and a half, but TOO much for an engine with an out-of-spec shim!

Wait, I missed an entry.  (Whew!)  I rechecked my clearances only 750 miles after shooting the video (end of May 2005), and my notes say that they all seemed to be in spec!  Still, I need to check 'em again, and the current owner of one of my former GSs needs to do a valve check/adjustment ASAP - with my assistance if possible.  ;)

So if you don't mind, I'll hang onto the 2.50 for now.  It may be available after the upcoming wrenching session, but I imagine that will be too late for you....  :dunno_white:
