Now...you be careful out there when you go to pick up your bike, n00d!  ;)  :thumb:

Don't worry, I will be... going over to Miami in the morning with my dad and a friend... should be back in Naples by 2:45PM... then I have all day to ride it around the parking lot (no license/tags yet, since I have to register/get my license in GA).... boo to that...

I can't register it here, and I can't get my license here. I can get temp tags, but they're only good for 30 days. Sometimes they'll let you get 2, which would give me 2 months. But I'm 3 months away from Atlanta. What do I do?

As for the license, I'm taking an MSF course next sat/sun, as long as the Atlanta DMV will accept it and give me my license (will find that out on Monday)... Obviously, without a license, I can't legally ride the bike at all, much less ride it from Naples to Atlanta. However, assuming I pass, and I buy insurance (which I'm buying tomorrow), don't you think it would be ok to carry the MSF certificate with me, in lieu of a license, and if asked, simply state that I need to get a GA license, I'm on my way to do it, but I'm obviously qualified, since I passed the course?

"Really, Occifer, I know eggzacly what I'm doing! After all, I'm not some n00d anymore! I'm a n00b now! License? oh...errhhm...well...I *qualify* for a license, so shouldn't I be able to ride!? What  do you mean 'How would you know whether or not I'm qualified to ride a motorcycle since I'm unlicensed!?' You saw me ride, didn't you!? Didn't I ride as well as any n00b!?  Come  on, Occifer, cut me a break. Just cuz I don't have proper documentation doesn't mean I should get a ticket or my bike impounded! I just started riding! I haven't  had *time* to get my license yet. And, besides, your laws here are pretty dorky, don't you think!? What do you mean put my hands up against the car and don't make any sudden moves! Wait...wait!!! I promise I'll get my license next week!"  :flipoff:

Well.. I know that's how it sounds.. but I'm physically incapable of receiving my license until I get back to Atlanta. I have no way to get the bike back to Atlanta, but to ride it. An MSF certificate indicates that the bearer is ready to receive their MC license to the DMV.. why shouldn't it mean the same thing to a cop? Besides.. the only time I'd have to worry is if I get pulled over.. and the only reason I should get pulled over is if I speed!

The police can legally impound a vehicle for expired liscense, no liscense, expired tags, no tags, no insurance, and MANY MANY more reasons.  Just be careful.

What's the permit situation in Naples like?

In California you can just go in, take a written test, and there you go, you have your permit.
Mind you, the limitations here for the permit are: no riding at night, no riding on the freeway, and no passengers.

this is bad an I know it...but I rode around when I only had my permit...I never got caught but it was stupid...

I'm pretty sure its the same as in NY, permit= you must be within 1/4 mile of a licensed motorcyclist while on the road...

Being in Florida, my friend got a ticket for riding without an endorsement.  He had taken the MSF class and had the piece of paper.

Damn.. ghey.. in FL, you have to be over 21 to get a permit, or else you're required to take the MSF course, which automatically results in getting your license. See, I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't. I don't have a FL driver's license, so I can't get a FL MC license. I have a GA DL.. but I'm in FL, so once I pass my test.. there's not much I can do... it sucks! I'm roadtripping to Atlanta next month.. maybe I can get to the DMV and get my license with my MSF cert.... then get tags later, cuz I'll need the actual bike to get inspected... hmm.. *begins plotting*... also, got the bike today, got some pics, already set her down my first time (zero speed, no scratches or anything)... First ride.. up to all of 15MPH in 1st gear! Stalled about 6 times before I found the friction point.. but now I got it!

Get a motorcycling friend to whiz it up there for you. If you insure it there should be something somewhere which says with your permission someone else can ride the bike under your insurance.

The motorcycle still won't have license plates.  It will be illegal to ride it, no matter who is riding.

Ehh, I'm going to the DMV tomorrow to get 2 temp tags, as each temp tag is good for 30 days

I don't think they'll give you one.  You bought the motorcycle outright, right?  If you have the title, you have to get it transferred to your name and you'll get a metal plate.  Of course, I'm pretty sure that you have to have a FL license to get a FL plate.

If you financed the bike, and the finance company has the title, then they'll give you a temp tag if you have the financing paperwork from the dealer (or bank).  That's the only time they give out temp tags AFAIK.  Even then, they'll only give you one, and if you need another (they haven't gotten what they need from the financing company), you'll have to get it when the old one is due to expire.

No, I haven't had any of these issues with the FL DHSMV, why do you ask?

Yeah, paid cash for the bike. Title will be transferred to my name, and I'll pay the fees. I have a FL license, actually. Just signed up for my duplicate, it will be sent to me within a week. See my other thread entitled "I GOT IT I GOT IT I GOT IT" for full details. But I think I figured out the license/MSF thing... now I gotta get the tag thing figured out.. cuz if you're right.. that means I have to get a metal FL tag.. for all of 2 months, and then go to GA and get a GA tag, and pay more fees.... fark!
