I just bought a 92 gs500. This is my first bike, and im just wondering, is it supposed to take 5 minutes to warm up?

GS's have a notoriously long warm up time so yea its probably correct.

yeah i wondered the same thing when i got my bike, but either I got used to it or it got better, but im leaning toward getting used to it

Well, just do as I do. Usually start it up.. Then put on helmet and gloves. And then after those 15 - 30 secs (Depends on how fishy the gloves decide to be). Im on my way. Seems to work nicely..  But then again.. im

+1.  It doesn't want to warm up properly at idle.  Start it, gear up, and be gentle until it's warm.

Sometimes I have to ride with the choke on for a good 5-10 minutes before it warms up fully.  Especially on those cool mornings.

After rejetting mine, I can take off immediately, and turn the choke off in about 30 secs.

Are u guys rejetting on your own or are you bringing it to a shop

People do both, but most rejet themselves (myself included).  It's not too hard if you're marginally mechanically oriented, and there are extensive write ups on rejetting.  A rejet is the only cure for long warm up times.  Do a search and you'll find tons of info.  Oh, and go to the main gstwin.com page and get yourself a clymer manual if you don't already have one.

What's the outside air temperature?  5 minutes is normal for me in the dead of winter, but in the summer 30 seconds is all I need.  Put on your gear while it's warming up.  Is it a California model?  They're jetted lean to pass the air quality standards...

mine only takes 10 15 seconds, but its a british version, get the pilots changed to 40s and you'll be away laughing.

Yeah it took about 3-5 min to warm up. But after the rejet it takes about 15 sec. So now it's a joke for warm-up.

When properly jetted a bike should only have to be warmed up 60 to 90 seconds on full choke.  On our bike you have to use the throttle to keep the rpm's up til fully warm.  Idle is to be set between 1100-1300rpms after the bike is completely warmed up (after 15 minutes, or a short ride).
