Dunlop D208s DO NOT work with the Kat wheel swap

The lowest size the D208 comes in for the rear is a 160. I jumped on a deal here and got a set for $142. Since I'm in Georgia on my way to Deals Gap, I decided to pay dgyver a visit and get some help with the swap. After getting everything ready and the sprocket shimmed, we realized that the chain rubbed against the tire. Even with some milling (done by dgyver) and shimming of various parts there still wasn't enough clearance to get the chain to not rub against the tire and have the proper clearance. There was also going to be a considerably more serious bend in the brake torque arm than the 1/2" noted in the How-To. It was more along the lines of 3/4", the width of the bar. Taking that kind of bend to a piece could have caused some serious structural damage to the bar.

So if you do the Kat wheel swap, be sure to stick with a 150 series tire in order to maintain the proper clearance between your chain and your brake torque arm.

On an up note to that visit, I learned that I had less than a millimeter left of material left on my rear pads for some reason. I replaced those with a spare set I had in an extra caliper.

Late 90's GSX-R brake arm bolts in and clears the 160 tire. Clearance is tight on both sides with the 160, but if you take the time to align it all, it works. I have a Michelin Pilot 160 on a B4 wheel on my GS.

That is only one of the issues. Even with 3/16" spacing the chain still rubbed the tire. I realize the GSX-R ones fit, but you also have to widen one of the holes on either the arm or the mount to get it to fit.

I know that Sportec M1s will work in the 160 size, but these D208s won't.

And this is a problem because.....?

The chain still rubs, even with the GSX-R brake torque arm. Shimming out the cush drive also puts more stress on the bolts holding the rotor (since it's not absorbed into the rubber cush mounts), which could cause them to snap.

I'll be selling my D208s, killing my Demons, and getting a set with a 150 rear.

maybe it's that the different tire brands run like different shoe brands. meaning a 160 in a michelin isn't exactly a 160 in a dunlop and so on. I've heard this somewhere before. when I do the swap I'm gonna give the pilot powers a try (just for the hell of it).

so from the pictures in the kat swap write-up, a Metezler 160 will work on a GS. Octane says Michelins will work; maybe we should just stick with what is known to fit...

Problem with finding out what works and what doesn't is that sometimes IT DOESN'T!  :laugh:

I never levered it on since the rear didn't work, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work. Then again, that's what I thought about the rear tiire. Changing the front to a 120 isn't as drastic a change though, and I'm pretty sure I've seen something on here of someone fitting a 120. So yeah.
