Hello all,

forgive the newbie question.

I am now riding at speeds of 100km per hour and my bike feels like its swaying from side to side

i have checked tyre pressures and all ok

i hav recently purchased a jacket made by Rivet....its not leather but that nylon type of jacket......

can a jacket add to wind turbulence while riding?

before when i felt the bike to be more stable i was wearing my normal work jacket which was tight fitting.

I know this sounds stupid but it feels like the rear wheel is sliding from left to right at speeds of 100km/h and over.

cheers

Frank

ps forgive the newbie question......if its dumb then please close the post....i wont mind

A jacket can make the ride feel different, but I don't think it'll be THAT different.  My guess is there is something else that's wrong.  I think you should have it checked out ASAP.

One thing I can think of is the condition of the tires.  Either the tire pressure (which you have already checked), or maybe there is irregular tire wear.  Also check the tire alignment.

initially the tyre pressure was way off....it has since been corrected

the tyres are the original tyres and the bike has only done 2000km's

they still look in very good condition.

its hard to explain the feeling....just strange as if something is pushing me side to side.....not all the time but when i open her up on the main roads.

it feels like i have a flat or little air in the tyre but i pulled into service station and checked again tonight and all was ok.

thanks for the reply....will take her into the shop tomorrow and see what the guys have to say.

cheers

Frank

check your wheel bearings and make sure that the back wheel is straight, and that its set to the same number on the adjuster.

At lower speeds or where there are tree's my bike will not wobble.  But when I get to about 80 mph the wind will cause me to wobble.  Not sure if wobble is the right work but I do get pushed by the wind.   Was nervous at first but now I'm useed to it.

fork springs. My bike did the same before I replaced awful stock springs with progressives. I would strongly suggest spring swap. Before you do that, don't freak out and just ride through the wobble.

Here is the picutre of Progressive springs next to stock to give you an idea how lame stock springs are.

If the jacket is too loose it will pull you around.  It will act like a parachute, or sail.

Is the wind blowing, or is it windy, when you ride at 100km per hour?

Also, your grip, or weight, on the handlebars may induce the wobbling, or side to side, movement.

Grip the tank with your knees and flex your back muscles to pull some of your upper body weight off of the handlebars.

I'm with you.  It sounds like wind gusts.

you guys may be right.................it feels like wind being the cause.

I feel for you, man, but was there another lane you could use to let him go by?

I don't know if they do this to the roads where you are, but on some highways here, the pavement is grooved quite a bit.  I've found that riding on it that my bike follows the grooves, resulting in a little swaying back and forth.  I've learned to just go with it.

I had/have this problem also. You are probably holding on to bars to fight acceleration and wind.

Try not to pull or push on bars. That did wonders to my wobling problem.

Afternoons riding home here the gusts of wind coming off the Sierras blow me around in my lane quite a bit.  I usually ride down the rode at about a 30 degree angle off the perpendicular just to stay in a semi-straight line.

It sounds like you are new to riding at that speed? I am a noob too and I am still not quite comfortable with going 100 km/h. You do feel the wind a lot more at that speed. I am confident that nothing is wrong with my bike (It's brand new, and my experienced BF rides it at much higher speeds without a problem). I know that my problem is simply that I am not yet used to the feel of highway speeds.
