Squeaking rear brake

Can overtightening the chain cause the rear brake to squeak?  Have a 2005 GS500, just turned 1000 miles.  (Seemed like it didn't squeak before chain tightening).
Have 2 bikes and 1 scooter (125cc).  Other bike is Kawasaki Ninja 250, as well as the Suzuki GS500.  Recently sold the Ninja.  Added the checkerboard decals to the GS.  They are reflective 3M decals.

Rear squeaking is notorious for the GS.

Wear them down abit and it will stop squeaking. Use your rear brake abit more to slow you down to make sure you wear it in. Your problems should at least become less if not go completely.

My SV rear squeaks loud as hell at just the right pressure.  I removed the callipers and sanded the pad surfaces with emory cloth.  Quiet as a mouse for about 100 miles.... then... SQUEEEEEEEEAK!!!  Its a motorcycle thing I guess  :dunno_white:

I found that the worse aligned my rear wheel is, the more it squeaks. I've got my rear wheel near perfectly aligned, and it doesn't squeak at all any more.

See Red Phils post on this topic http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=24039.0 for how to align the rear wheel.

if it dosentr sqeak then its not a gs :2guns:

I'm pretty sure my GS is a GS  :dunno_white:

i have been working on cars and bikes for years and i found that if you taper the edge all the way round the friction material with a file this stops it. that why sanding the face works for a bit, because you have removed some of the edge.

Go too a car parts store and buy brake greese in a small packet(it's made for this) put a very small amount on the BACK of the pad.

No squeak here, and it's definitely a GS.  I know the person who rode it before I did, and I guarantee that the rear brake was used quite a bit, and I always use it.  I suspect that's why it doesn't squeak.

Before I aligned my wheel, my brake squeaked a lot, despite constant use. It instantly got worse after the dealer loosened the axle nut for me (therefore misaligning the rear wheel further), and the squeaking instantly went away completely after I aligned my wheel... I'm telling ya, I'm 99% positive it's an alignment thing. It's easy to do, so you might as well give it a shot.
