So I was just cruising around all night. Didnt really feel like hitting up the bars so I just hopped on the bike instead.. Ended up in a part of town where I had never been before and was pretty much lost. So I see a big parking lot just to the right of the road. I go to turn off and see a huge hole where the pavement was starting to crumble away from some old rail road tracks(Downtown Richmond, Where I live. Is covered up in old tracks).. The hole was hidden in shadow from the headlight. By the time I saw it it was much too late.. The bike threw me a few feet and I went for a pretty nice slide. I was wearing a cheap Nitro mesh jacket that held up pretty well but i somehow got some rash on my right arm anyway.. It always felt a little big on me.. I wonder If the armor was sliding around on my arm while I was sliding.. My jeans (tho bloody) dont even have a hole in them., but somehow My knee also managed to get a pretty nice rashing. ..

Some Fishermen close by heard me go down and came quick with a first aid kit and helped me get the bike back up... They told me how they fish there almost every weekend and that they have seen five or six bikes go down in that exact same spot...

The bike... well..... Im not sure what to think.. Right side plastics are pretty chewed up. Plus when I was riding it home it seemed like the entire nose fairing was crooked.. At least shes fully insured. Kinda scared to see what they do to my rates tho after this ;(

PS: Went to clean my wounds before finishing this post... More blood than anything.. Knee is just some minor rug burns pretty much.. And my right arm only has one somewhat deep gash.. Wish I knew where that came from...  :dunno_white: Levi can can make some killer denim.

Glad to hear you're alright.  Good luck getting the bike pretty again, at least it still runs fine :thumb:

Glad you're allright.  Everybody, when riding around train tracks, trolley tracks, tram tracks...watch out for tire traps.  These are mostly where the tracks meet at narrow angles, but can be right next to tracks as well.  This is why they state to cross tracks at as perpendicular an angle as possible.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

good judgement trumps good skills every time.

Damn dude, I would be a lot more upset than that. Of course my bike is naked so I'd have scraped up engine, not plastic!

We have a few of those around here. (Bike killers) I hit one dea on and by sheer luck was upright at the end of it all.
Rich, RIP.

Could have been worse.
This makes me nervous about riding in a mesh jacket this summer; I went down pretty hard in leather w/o armor and didn't have a scratch.

Don't be.

The only stuff I had from that jacket was from where the neoprene on the neck rubbed against me. No biggie.

What speed were you going when that happened? Do you think mesh would be less safe on the freeway? It gets so hot sometimes I can't wear my leather jacket for fear of heat stroke at stoplights... And it's not even summer yet

I'm glad you were wearing at least some gear, Fedexmike!

Roughly 45 or 50, I believe. I think mesh is fine for street riding.

FedExMike - the burn on your knee is exactly from what you thought it was, the denim rubbing against your leg. The gas on your right arm is probably from the same thing. Look inside your jacket at the spot near where your arm was cut. There might be a seam or something poking out. Make sure the armor is also padded along the edges. The armor may have shifted and had a sharp enough edge to cut your arm.
