my brake lights are always illuminated.  i have read previous post showing wiring diagrams for the braking system.  i measure positive voltage on  the white/black wire running to the the lights.  does anyone know what might be wrong?  maybe a bad front or rear brake switch??

Have yiou tried changing your bubls first?

I guess you could put in bulbs that are burned out.  That would fix it.   

One of the switches might be stuck in the closed position.  Do you hear the little click when you use the brake?

i checked the voltage going to the brake light and it is high all the time so i suspect the bulbs are not the problem.  i do not hear any switching going on when i squeeze the hand brake.  where is the switch located?  i tried lookling for it but could not follow the wiring beyond the gas tank.

It's right under the front brake lever.  Look for a little black plastic box under the lever.  It'll have two wires plugged into it on its left side.  The brake lever itself pushes a little button on the switch when you pull it in.  That switch should be making a clicking sound when you pull and release the front brake.

I'm gonna bet it's the rear brake switch...it's hard to get to, but if you can just get a couple fingers on it you can rotate the body to adjust it, and then screw up the placstic nut.  Pictures Friday.

The context was different (how to adjust the rear brake lever so you're not riding the brake) but hopefully the info -- especially in the PS portion -- will still apply.

I was going to add my fingers in the photos, hopefully letting people know where they can get at it, but you're right in your post script that over is easier to get to the switch.

thanks for all the help guys.  the problem was twofold.  the rear brake switch was a bit too tight causing the light to bee on permanently and the front brake switch was bad and needed replacing.
