Hey now guys,

I got off work yesterday and hurried to the parking lot, which is conviently 10 steps away, but when i attempted to start up my 04F, it wouldn't start, it was just start up for a couple seconds, and then die. I have to try about maybe seven times before getting my steed to start and rolled outta the parking out. Now I am thinking it was probally because it was 100+ weather and the poor baby didn't have any shade. Or could it be something else?

Even in the hot weather you still have to use the choke. Maybe just for 10-15 secs, but still. Also heat only has possitive effect when starting motorcycle. Only later can it cause overheating problems.

Also dont use full choke if it is hot, just a 1/2 is enough.

I had the same issue here in KY when it was really humid and 90+.  The fix for me was NOT to use the choke even on a bike that sat overnight. This is how I've been starting my bike in the mornings on hot days this spring/summer.  I've checked my plugs and they look fine.  My idle is also smooth, so I don't think I'm running too rich [Edit: or too lean].  My bike did not do this last year, but that was before rejet/filter/exhaust upgrade.  After cooler nights, however, my bike definitely needs full choke.

The bike is crap for lean, so you do have to choke it if it's stock even in the summer heat. A simple rejet will take care of that. Mine starts up on the first crank now.

I don't have a gs anymore but with my cbr I have found that when it is hot if I put on the choke at idle it will cut out.

I have a bone stock 05f and even on hot days i have to pull the choke to start.  Then once it is running cut the choke and it is fine.  The only time i don't have to use the choke is if the bike has been ridden and not sat for longer than about 2 hours.  Any longer than that and she like to have a little choke just to start.

but i did have the choke on and it still stalled on me.

Mine does it too.  If I pop the gas cap, it starts right up.

I have an 04 too, and I know exactly what you're talking about. If I crank the bike without any throttle in hot weather, it'll idle unevenly at under 500RPM and stall out. The solution is to hold the throttle open about halfway, and THEN crank the bike. It'll jump up to the high 3-4k RPM idle and you can close the throttle and you're all set.

how far did you have the choke on? Mine only requires about 1/4 choke to start up, and I can close it almost immediately (I'm in Florida, so nice and warm here)

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.
