yep the rear section is bolted on. i know its huge, i didn't realise how big it was gunna be untill i got it on, i can change it for the later gsxr which is smaller, might do at a later date, but i dont think it looks too bad with the fat wheel, better than it did with the gs wheel any way :icon_mrgreen:

Will it pass an MOT with the frame like that?

hmmmnz

why wouldn't it pass an mot its solid, and its not going to go any where, will a standard srad get a mot??? i used all the same fixing points as the srad,
i don't see it as an issue,

I wouldnt bet a lot of money of your bike passing a MOT. I have got a copy of the Testers manual and in section 6.3 which relates to condition of structure, it lists reasons for rejection, one of which is...."Any deliberate modification or alteration to the frame which significantly reduces the original strength" It could well be argued that that is exactly what you have done.  I think what matters is not the fact the S-rad section was designed to bolt on, rather the fact it was not designed to bolt on to a GS500 and the fact you have cut out a section of the GS frame apparently without adding any additional bracing or stiffening to compensate. Or that there is a risk that the frame may fail in the area of the bolted joint due to lack of strength. I cant tell from the photos if you have done it but at the very least you need to strengthen the box-sections of the GS frame internally where the subframe bolts on and the bolts pass through so the sides of the box-section dont pull in and distort when the bolts are tightened. Any visable distortion in the frame is also a failure. I suggest also that you weld plates over the open ends which will increase rigidity and keep water out as a rusty frame will also lead to failure. Test guidelines are open to interpretation and one tester may view something differently than another but If the mod is done properly and looks right you stand a chance of passing the test and you can argue the case if it fails, but if it looks like a lash-up you have got no chance. Please dont take my comments negatively its not my intention to poke holes in your work, we are all Motorcyclists but when doing things like this you have to consider your own safety and that of other road users, also realise that despite you thinking it may be safe the Police or Ministry of Transport might not.

hmmm well, its the sub frame and not the frame that i have modified, but i can see the issue, i have got square steel spacers inside the tube with a hole in it to stop the bolts compressing the subframe, it might be worth welding end caps on though, i dont really think there will be any issues when i get its test done in a few months but will let you know. :thumb:
