Some of you may remember my other thread, in short, my bike doesnt run for long on "on" or "reserve" and will just cut out after a few minutes... usually at speeds > 60. So i keep it on prime.

My bike also is slow.. it cant go much faster than 90 mph, and 70+ is a huge chore. Which leads to the next problem of getting around 25 to 30 mpg.  Its a 1997 with 31k miles on it, but still theres got to be something wrong.

So i open her up today for the first real time on my own (had already had a guy clean/tune the carbs for me when i got the bike) to clean the fuel valves and replace hoses in hopes that it would be a start to solving my problems. Along the way i found a few things that I couldnt quite tell what they were from the clymbers manual... worse yet the hoses were not connected to anything! Pics....

Thiis one scares me. Its gonnected to both carbs by a T joint and the end of it was just hanging around the battery compartment area. The book shows two similar lines that might be it but if its a fuel line of some sort then i dont understand how my bike has been running at all for the past 2 months. Any identification is appreciated <3 Although i realize now it might just be an air vent hose...

First one I saw was this, small 1/8 tube thats connected to the battery box thing and hooks up to nothing that i can see up top, and nothing on the bottom (goes down to the engine area).

This was hooked up, and i know where everything goes etc, im just curious what it does.

p.s. Im in california but this is an arizona bike so it doesnt have the bullshit equipment the CA one does.

pic 1  carb vent    leave it alone
pic 2   battery vent hose...plug it back into the battery....keeps acid from splashing all over frame
pic 3  looks like a fuel filter to me
old one left there????
what is it hooked to?
is it being used as a vent filter from the crankcase?
want Iain's money to support my butt in kens shop

that pic was taken after i disconnected the fuel line from the petcock valve, i figured filter but it didnt say on the clymers diagrams and it wasnt exactly labeled :D

well damn, the valves look squeeky clean and the hoses arent in that bad of shape either. Which leaves me with still no clue about why it might be running bad
