I ran out fo gas on the hwy i had 300km so far on this tank of gas... i knew i needed to fill up soon but i did't expect it to die on me just like that... so i put it in res and went to the gas station... i had to fill up close to 15Ls.. so basically i got 20kms/L ... I did't think much about it .. I thought i just pushed the bike hard these days thats why it ran out of gas faster.. But a couple of days later i filled up again.. this time i only put 225kms on that tank of gas but i only manage to put in 5Ls! I was in shock and confused 5L did 225kms!!! thats 45km/L thats impossiable!! :dunno_white: what is wrong with my bike? sometimes it gets bad milage and sometimes it puts out some unbelievable milage??

I'm sorry, I wish I could help but my American brain gets all twisted up when I see metric units.  I wouldn't even know how to begin translating Km/L into mpg.

Kerry

300 km = 188 miles
15 liters = just under 4 gallons

300 km / 15 L = 48 mpg

------------------------

225 km = 140 miles
5 liters = ~1.3 gallons

225 km / 5 L = 108 mpg!

------------------------

Are you sure you used the same method to fill the tank both times?

Are you sure you filled to the same level both times?  Depending on how you hold the pump handle, it can shut off pretty early, or not until the tank's overflowing.  Sounds like you just filled it to different levels.  Also, 20 kM/L doesn't sound to bad to me.

I never fill tell the gun stops ... i watch the gas untill it gets up to the neck... yeah 20km/l is not bad but how do you explain 225km only using 5L!! Thats 45km/L... The only thing i can think of is the gas pump was messed up... I don't think something is wrong with my bike... anymore ideas?

I have had unbelievable mileage when I was sloppy with the trip odometer (Or that was malfunctioning). Found out later by checking the master odometer recordings that mileage had been pretty plain vanilla.

You might have a partially open or partially blocked fuel tank petcock. This causes the bike to starve at high speeds and it feels like running out of gas. Use a flashlight to view the tank on-off valve under the seat. If the mark is not perfectly vertical, turn it so it is.
