and i have to say, the bike runs a hell of a lot better, much less vibrations, and power seems smoother.

See, I don't wanna put myself on that list, even though I probably need to.  I don't know WHEN i'll be able to perform the operation, and I don't wanna keep other people waiting.

Can you direct me to this Kerry Video for valve adjusting I keep reading about?
Have 2 bikes and 1 scooter (125cc).  Other bike is Kawasaki Ninja 250, as well as the Suzuki GS500.  Recently sold the Ninja.  Added the checkerboard decals to the GS.  They are reflective 3M decals.

Are your clearance figures in inches or mm?
If you mean inches, all were to spec w/o shim change.  If you mean mm you must have decimal point in wrong place?

Spec is .03-.08 mm (.0012-.0031 in)

TheFleshRocket

On a related note, how do valve clearances get tighter?  Assuming they were adjusted within spec at the factory, I'd expect that running the engine would wear down the metal a bit and make the clearances looser if anything.  That's my justification for doing valves by the "ear" method--wait until I can hear the valves ticking and then check 'em.  Someone feel free to explain to me if/why this is wrong.

So is the shim removal tool from the video still available from Dennis Kirk?  I looked for it on their website and could not find it.
Very helpful video, by the way.

That's a very good question.  I was assuming he meant metric too but then he mentioned going from a 2.75 shim to a 2.65 shim and recorded a .002 change in measurement.  You might have just adjusted all your valves right out of spec Rangerbrown.

There was a "less than" before the clearance.  And I believe that he put one too many zeros after the decimal point.

I just bought one of those Motion Pro valve tools and tried it for the first time yesterday.  Didn't work at all for me, I got out the screwdrivers and did it the old fashion way as I had done many times before.  Waste of $20.  Don't need one of those magnets either, tweezers work just fine for changing shims.
