I have been following  the thread mentioning how good it is to go past the 7K tach mark. I am  not sure if my timing chain is up to that task as I bought my bike used (92 GS500E). Have any of you guys/gals ever changed you timing chain before? I do not have the Suzuki Service manual. Anybody have any idea when it need to be changed? I have 30k on my odo.

The cam chain doesn't carry much load, is maintained at constant tension and is in a very clean and well lubed environment. It should last longer then 30K, heck it should last longer than 100K unless you are very un lucky or stoopid. Noises from the thing are typically cam chain tensioner giving up than the chain itself. Check that. There are older posts covering that. But the gist is...with the valve cover off and plugs out when you turn the motor over by hand, the chain between the 2 cam sprokets should be tight and never sag.

What exactly does no slack mean? The manual is vague and have I ever seen x " for y lb force. Not matter how tight I make mine, if I push hard enough it will move a little.

Thanks, that's what I figured but I never could find an exact definition for "tight". I rewound the tensioner and now it isn't quite so floppy in the center.
