I was excellerating from a stop sign and as I was shifting up, the bike (engine maybe) made a really weird *thud* sound and kind of hopped ... it scared the sh@t out of me... My guess is I half shifted into 5th gear and as I accelerated, it jumped back down into 4th by itself. What a weird feeling. I hope my bike is OK.

It probably will be allright.  I've had that happen, and nothing came of it.

How does it ride now?  Does it shift allright?
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Scratch: Afterwards the shifting felt normal, mind you I'll probably have to check in again later as this happened about 30 seconds prior to me arriving at work. I'll also check the clutch cable to make sure they are smooth with no impeding foreign elements.

I think (hope) it did more damage to my heart than the bike. ;)

Good idea to check the clutch cable slack!  :thumb:

How's your chain slack, is it more than 1-1/2" ?
Being naked was great, but now that I'm older I thought I should cover up!!!!

I never thought about the chain, good... I'll check that too.

.8 to 1.2 inches.  On the sidestand.  Right after a ride.  In neutral.

Yeah, nothing to worry about, methinks.

I accidentally (haven't ridden in a while) pulled a clutchless upshift except I hit a false neutral going into fourth, weird. Same thunk noise.

After that nothing weird. Clutch, then shift. (God I'm stupid sometimes.)
Rich, RIP.

CircleCenter: That's what I think happened - I had a solid case of the dumbass while hsifting. I checked the bike over, nothing out of the ordinary. The chain moves with an inch or so of play and I tightened the clutch lever just for the heck of it.

Thanks guys.
