Hey guys,

After buying my first bike ever--a 2000 model GS a couple of weeks ago-- this newbie enjoyed his best day yet at the helm.

A friend and I toured some beautiful farmland areas--brimming with curves and twists and extra long stretches without lights or stop signs. I felt like I was in heaven while realizing ... THIS is what biking is all about--and this is what bikers really crave. I asbolutely loved it.  It was a wonderful day under a beautiful blue sky and warm temps.

By day's end, I had put 160 miles on the odo. Don't know if I'll ever match today's rush, but I sure hope so.

Happy riding!

I spent the better part of my first summer riding in farmland, I really enjoyed it.  I still enjoy it.  And I like finding new places to ride.  Yup, I think that's what the better part of motorcycling is all about.

One word of caution: watch out for mud/cowpies/slow moving farm equipment.

ps. What's your approximate age?  My freshman roomate at MTU was from Royal Oak.  His name is Justin Meister, I believe he is 23 like me.  We were a bit of an odd pairing, but it worked out well

I'm not sure yet, just moved here in January.  The past couple years I have been riding til around Thanksgiving, though by that time of the year that was only on short trips to school and sporadic nice days.

If you think you don't need a helmet, you probably don't

Glad you had fun--and you're right, a good set of twisties is one of motorcycling's best rewards.  The better you get, the better IT gets.  So yeah, you'll likely experience the same rush again, if not moreso.
