Hey all,
I am just now considering buying a 1990 GS 500 E.
A few questions....
1. Where do I find the dual front headlights and mirrors that come off the end of the bars - such as Dom's bike in the Wall of Fame?
2. I want to change the colour of the entire bike - what parts can be sanded and painted, and what cannot? I.E. I presume there is no problem painting the tank... how about the front fender, the side panels, and most importantly, how about the wheels? The bike I am considering comes with the stock white wheels - and I would prefer black or possibly even change the wheels themselves to spoked or chrome wheels, if possible.
3. If any of you forum guys are from Canada, where is the best place to get parts or accessories for this bike?

Thanks,
John

Hello and welcome.

1.  you can order bar-end mirrors from about any online parts retailer or have them ordered from a shop.  You just have to make sure that they will fit into the 3/4 inch bar of the GS.  The duel headlights are off of a buel and there is a thread on how to mount them.  I will look for it but being at work have limited time.

2.  You can sand, prime and paint all the mentioned parts.  You just want to use a fine grit sand paper to get the paint and stickers off, finish sand and prime/paint.  There is a thread around about wheel painting and the person used a brush on paint and it looked great, i will see if i can find that as well.

3. In US sorry can't help there.

Dual headlights - Either Buell, or search for "Dominator". The Dominators are very high quality, but very expensive.

Bar end mirrors - go to a local cycle shop and see what they have, or check some online retailers like DennisKirk or MAW.

3. Order them from the States; depending on where you are it's best to have them ship to a letter carrier and take the short jaunt across the border to avoid being raped by UPS (or FedEx to a lesser extent), otherwise ship USPS.

3. Find a good reputable powersports store, and go through them... Or BikeBandit.com - they are quite good. Canadian Tire have a few bits and pieces but nothing is really GS500 specific.

I'm in Canada and order most of my stuff from bikebandit.com, they are super-fast with the shipping to Canada and the prices are decent enough to make up for the exchange.  Even with shipping and exchange I still have large saving over my local dealers.

Welcome to the ant farm!

The whole bike can be painted except for the tires.  People do it here all the time.  Onlypastrana's bike was recently repainted with good results.
